"Fakes & Forgeries" People's Choice Award Winner Announced

The second annual exhibit of the Franklin Art Association’s, “Fakes & Forgeries Art Show” closed on Saturday with the announcement the winner of its People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Ribbon was won by Christine Blue Lamb Toubeau, long time resident and artist of Franklin. She rendered her version of Johannes Vermeer’s, famous “Girl with a Pearl Earring” painting, one in 1665. The girl was shown this time with contemporary clothing and jewelry in today’s fashion and this new version was titled, “Material Girl with a Pearl Earring”.

During the Franklin Historical Museum’s hours in May until June 6th, the FAA Fakes & Forgeries exhibit was open for the public. Artists were asked to paint a work of an honored art Master using their own style and their own interpretation for the new image. A Reception was held on the last day of the show, June 6th and the ballots were counted for the winner.

This show is a successful collaboration of both the Franklin Art Association’s artwork from area artists and The Franklin Historical Museum’s building and facilities in which to show the work.

The Franklin Art Association will resume our monthly art demonstrations and programmed meetings on Wednesday, September 2nd.

Have a marvelous and productive summer!

As we mentioned in an earlier post, FAA members and guests at the May 6 monthly meeting thouroughly enjoyed demo artist Kristin Parone's colorful and happy painting style. As promised, Kristin sent a photo of the finished painting and several closeups.

Members were enthusiastic about taking a workshop with her — so look for info about one in the fall!

In the meantime there are still openings in Kristin's workshop at Arundel Farm Gallery in southern coastal Maine. For more information and to sign up, go to https://www.arundelfarmgallery.com

On Wednesday, May 6 the FAA had the pleasure of welcoming acclaimed artist Kristen Perone, who shared a demonstration of her technique with us, interacting warmly with the group as her painting gradually emerged under her brush strokes, then chatting with members during the break. It was a meeting not to be missed. Fortunately for those who did, it was videoed by Franklin Public TV and should be available for viewing sometime soon.

We will have one more meeting before we break for the summer. Stay tuned for details!

Coming Soon! Be sure to put this on your calendar.
