UPDATE #5
Hello everyone!
It's been a while, but I assure you, I haven't stopped.
As we draw closer to the end of my Project, I wanted to give one more, huge thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout this endeavour. Whether you donated money or a product, volunteered your time, or helped spread the word, I wouldn't be here without you. Ultimately, we were able to raise $3,575!
Over the summer, I have been working with various people to wrap up the remaining tasks. One major drawback was the delay in finding a suitable computer. I went through various different sources, but none of them ended up working out, causing a significant delay in the progress I was able to make. This was primarily because I needed the computer to move forward with user guides, experience downloading, and more.
Once I got the computer, I was able to get to work. I connected the computer to the new TV we bought for my Center to test out both products, and then began setting up the virtual reality headset. Once I got these things working, I was able to start making the user guides. It also gave me the ability to create something new, something that wasn't planned from the beginning: an experience list. Now, when anyone visits the Center, they will get a comprehensive list of all available experiences: what they offer, who they are recommended for, and how to play them.
Throughout July, I also worked with a fellow community member to create a custom-built desk for the computer and VR headset to be stored in. Created entirely from scratch, we created a very nice cabinet that will suit my Center nicely.
One of the last things I took care of was a window decal for the Center. For those unaware, my Center will be located in the Franklin Library's CreateSpace, a separate room filled with other technology. One of its walls is composed of windows, and so, to gain people's attention and to pique their interest, I worked with FastSigns to create a custom logo and decal to display.
Right now, I am currently awaiting some final components to ship and am set to install my Center in the coming weeks. Really soon, you will be able to try virtual reality for yourselves and see the final product of over a year of work. I plan to post some photos on Facebook (here) once completed, so be sure to check back to be some of the first to see the finished result.
As an extra surprise, there are a few more things planned once my Center is complete. I have been working behind the scenes with some others, planning some additional things related to my Project. Nothing is finalized yet, but they should start to come together when my Center is installed. So again, be sure to check back here to hear about those... 😉
Thank you all again for your continued support. If you would like to see my finished Project or hear about the other upcoming events, I will continue posting updates on my GoFundMe and pages:
