You're invited to an improv workshop Saturday, April 18, at 8 a.m.!
Improv is an excellent way to practice being in the moment, connecting with others, and discovering your innate creativity.
Area Director Christina Slade — a champion humorous speaker and stand-up comic — will show us how to thrive in the wonderfully chaotic world of improv.
Here's the hilarity that will ensue:
1. Word association warm-up
We’ll loosen up our brains with a fast-paced word game where you respond with the first thing that comes to mind. It’s like shaking the rust off your creativity.
2. “Yes, and” circle
We’ll build a story together one sentence at a time using “Yes, and…” This helps everyone practice accepting and adding.
3. One-word story
Each person contributes just one word at a time to create a full story. It sounds simple, until it’s not. Hilarious chaos guaranteed.
4. Character switch
You’ll jump into a scene and then suddenly switch characters mid-way. It’s quick, unpredictable, and a great way to get out of your head.
5. Freeze-tag scenes
Two people start a scene. At any moment, someone can yell “freeze,” tap in, and start a completely new scene using the same physical positions. This one gets wild in the best way.
6. Real-life scenarios (Toastmasters style)
We’ll tie it back to speaking by improvising short scenarios you might actually face—unexpected questions, presentations gone sideways, or thinking on your feet in meetings.
The goal of all of this isn’t to be the funniest person in the room. It’s to get comfortable being uncomfortable, trust your instincts, and have a really good time doing it.
Please join us and invite your friends. More people make it even more fun!
