Stop, Drop & Roll in 2013
Dear Friends,
Stop, drop and roll is the phrase typically yelled in fire safety training. It is the perfect spiritual sound to listen for in 2013 as fires rage around the nation. It is the Father's heart to keep us from becoming dangerously engulfed by the emergencies surrounding us. He is with us in the flames. Stop - it is critical in a fire to stop moving rather than fanning the flames or hindering those who are trying to help. This same principle applies to us when crises erupt. We stop to make sure we keep our focus on the Lord, listening for His voice. We stop to remind ourselves of Isaiah 43:2, "... the flames will not set you ablaze." Drop - dropping to the ground avoids injury. We drop by humbling ourselves to avoid the injury of pride and self sufficiency. When we drop, we acknowledge that our solutions are found in the Lord. Roll - rolling puts out a fire by depriving it of oxygen. This is exactly what we do when we roll our burdens to the Lord. We put out the fire of panic by depriving it of the oxygen of doubt and self sufficiency.
The Lord saves us in every crisis when we stop, drop and roll. He ably rescues us from the fires of our lives when we turn to HIm and obey His instructions. He longs to comfort and to restore those who are suffering and grieving. He is good in every season. As we begin 2013, a people of promise and hope, we remember when disaster strikes, we stop, drop and roll!
