PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release, August 7th, 2024

GNACC to Host 2nd EXPLORE MANUFACTURING: A Stop on CT Manufacturing Roadshow โ€˜24

The CT Manufacturing Roadshow is stopping in Norwich, CT, and welcomes area manufacturers, students, and educators to join us! The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce - Norwich, CT has announced it will be hosting the 2nd EXPLORE MANUFACTURING EXPO: A Stop on CT Manufacturing Roadshow โ€˜24 event at Dodd Stadium, 14 Stott Avenue, Norwich, CT on Thursday, September 26 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

The GNACC Education and Workforce Development Committee has proudly partnered with organizations including the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board - EWIB, EAMA Regional Sector Partnership - EAMA RSP, ReadyCT, and others to create this valuable opportunity for students.

The Explore Manufacturing Expo aims to connect students (grades 7-12) with manufacturers across Eastern Connecticut. When students meet manufacturers, good things happen! It makes sense, then, to create more opportunities for that. The event is designed to raise awareness and pique interest in the innovative, well-paying, and modern careers available in Connecticut manufacturing.

REGISTER TODAY!! https://web.norwichchamber.com/atlas/events/11065/details

For Manufacturers: The Roadshow offers an excellent platform to ignite excitement around the broad career paths available in manufacturing.

For Students & Educators: The Roadshow offers a unique chance to connect with manufacturers and discover a range of dynamic and rewarding career paths. Manufacturing is shaping the future, and you can be a part of it. Come check out the possibilities!

Event HIGHLIGHTS Include:

~ Innovation stations offering hands-on activities
~ A โ€œscavenger huntโ€ encouraging students to interact with manufacturers, complete with prizes
~ Career simulation experiences with virtual reality headsets
~ Mobile training labs demonstrating 3D printing, CNC, and other technologies
~ An interactive "cobot" (collaborative robot) station
~ Robotics teams, showcasing how STEAM activities align with the manufacturing industry
~ A 40-foot inflatable submarine, illustrating life inside and its operational systems

Angela Adams, GNACC Executive Director, stated, โ€œThe chamber is dedicated to fostering connections between local businesses and our community. By offering opportunities and resources to students, we aim to ensure they find rewarding employment here in Eastern Connecticut.โ€

EWIB said. โ€œThis initiative is crucial in bridging the gap between education and industry and providing students with valuable insights into the manufacturing sector. Students that wish to pursue a manufacturing career path can explore free job-skills training opportunities such as the Youth Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative (YMPI).โ€

"The Manufacturing Roadshow series is an essential piece of a larger strategy to address ongoing workforce shortages in the Connecticut manufacturing sector," said Shannon Marimon, executive director of ReadyCT, a lead partner in the series production. "These events are designed to be fun and give students the space to envision themselves in an exciting, maker-driven career with one of Connecticut's dynamic manufacturers. By emphasizing middle schooler participation, students get a nice, long runway to pursue engineering and related STEM coursework aligned with these careers, making them very attractive, competent entry-level hires down the road."

To learn more about this event, please contact Angela Adams at the Greater Norwich Area Chamber at [email protected] or call (860) 887-1647.
