The members of FVFD congratulate and are so proud of Firefighter Mason DiFalco on his graduation from PCHS this weekend. Mason, graduating 5th in his class with a 4.14 GPA, will be attending WVU in the fall to further his studies. Mason has been a vital, active member of the department since joining when he turned 16 and is consistently one of the top call runners in the department. His dedication, work ethic, and commitment to serving his community don’t go unnoticed. As the pictures show, Mason’s aspirations of becoming a firefighter started early on. Congratulations Mason, and congratulations to all PCHS graduates on this momentous occasion! 🎓🎓

Yesterday, 05/18/2026 at 18:03, FVFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire in the 7700 Block of Mountaineer Drive. Engine 26 (with 5), Tanker 25 (with 2), and Engine 23 (with 2) responded. Upon arrival, crews found a passenger vehicle fully involved in the eastbound lane. Engine 26 arrived on scene at 18:18:58, and water was on the fire at 18:19:45. Crews extinguished the fire and overhauled the vehicle. Foam was applied to ensure extinguishment. Firefighting efforts required the closure of Mountaineer Drive, one lane was later opened during the overhaul phase. There were no injuries. Pendleton County Sheriff’s Department and Carl’s Garage assisted on scene. Crews assisted with debris removal, cleaned the roadway, and applied absorbent while the vehicle was being removed. Once the roadway was clear apparatus returned to service at 19:42.

On Wednesday, 05/13/2026 at 20:25, FVFD was dispatched for a tree fire in the 500 Block of Rocky Mountain Road. Engine 23 and Brush 28 responded, and upon arrival crews found a large pine tree on fire as the result of an apparent lightning strike. Heavy storms had passed through the area just prior to this call for service and the tree had damage consistent with a lightning strike. Luckily the tree was located at the edge of a meadow and the fire didn’t spread beyond the tree. Crews utilized hand lines form both apparatus to extinguish the tree. Once all hot spots were extinguished, apparatus returned to service at 21:40.

On Monday, 04/27/2026 at 13:29, FVFD was dispatched for automatic mutual aid with South Fork VFD for a brush fire in the 14000 Block of Sugar Grove Road. Brush 28 and Engine 23 responded from FVFD, and upon arrival crews found an active brush fire. McDowell VFD also assisted on scene, and Upper Tract VFD was on standby for other potential calls. PCER stood by on scene. WV Division of Forestry was on scene as well. Crews worked together to establish a line around the perimeter of the fire and extinguish active fire and hot spots. Thankfully the ground cover involved produced a fairly slow fire spread, which allowed crews to access the entire perimeter and contain the fire. There were no injuries, and no structures were involved. FVFD apparatus returned to service at 16:42.

The Franklin Volunteer Fire Department seized an opportunity to train and serve the community simultaneously.

Following a request to mitigate dust issues at the softball field caused by dry weather and windy conditions, a team of firefighters, including junior members, engaged in hands-on training. They practiced critical skills such as hydrant hookups, pump operations, deploying handlines, and maintaining effective communication while working on the field.

This initiative enhanced the team's capabilities while benefiting the community.

FVFD recently ordered and received five new Task Force Tips nozzles for attack lines on our engines. These nozzles were purchased with funds received from the “Round Up” program at T&K Markets. Many of the nozzles that were replaced and are shown in the last picture, were 20-30 years old. Even with maintenance, those nozzles had reached the end of their useful life. The new nozzles are selectable gallon nozzles, and will enhance suppression capabilities with new technology. This is another example of how supporting the “Round Up” program at T&K Markets directly benefits us and allows us to make much needed equipment upgrades. We thank T&K Markets for the Round Up program, and we are extremely appreciative of all who support it. More equipment is on order and will be shown as we receive it. Again, FVFD thanks everyone for their continued support of us through the “Round Up” program
