The Georges Pond Association Annual Meeting is this Saturday, July 25. 10 a.m. at the Franklin Town Office and Community Center. Our featured speaker is Steele Hays from Maine Audubon, who will be talking about Loons.

⚠️ Boaters, please note the difference between the two buoys located at Middle Ground on Georges Pond.

The orange buoy on the north side of Middle Ground is a water monitoring buoy and is not for tying up boats. It is clearly marked "DON'T TIE UP" and should only be used by those conducting water monitoring activities.

A new tie-up buoy has been installed on the south side of Middle Ground specifically for boats. As shown in the photos, it consists of a large yellow buoy, smaller black buoys, and a cylinder float.

Please use the designated tie-up buoy and leave the monitoring buoy undisturbed.

If you have guests, renters or visitors enjoying Georges Pond this summer, please share this information with them as well. A little awareness goes a long way in helping everyone enjoy the pond safely and responsibly.

Ponders: If anyone has the "Nesting Loons - Stay Away" sign that was near the Little Island, could you please place it on the north eastern side of Murch's Island (on the Georges Pond Road side of the island)? Loons are nesting in that area.

Common Loons have low levels of reproductive success and are sensitive to disturbances when raising their chicks. Only one out of every four Loon chicks survives to adulthood. Georges Pond is lucky to have two chicks this year. Being aware of where Loons are and keeping a good distance away will help minimize stress and allow Loon parents to focus on the important job of raising their chicks. Give them a chance, give them space, and stay away. Get up-close views ONLY with binoculars!
