Today is National Wreaths Across America Day 2025!

Thank you to every individual in every community across the country who will take the time today to honor and remember our veterans. Together as one nation with one mission.

From the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts, our veterans are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers. They come from all backgrounds in life to place those lives on the line for our freedoms. There are millions of individual stories to tell.

While we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, our servicemen and women sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year, to preserve our freedoms. In many American homes, every day there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and never came home.

When a volunteer places a wreath on a veteran's grave on National Wreaths Across America Day, we encourage them to speak that veteran's name aloud, thank them for their service and sacrifice, and reflect on that person and their life. Wreaths Across America shows our veterans and their families that we will not forgetโ€”we will never forget.

Please consider joining us this Saturday to help place the beautiful fresh balsam wreaths on each of our veteran's graves.

๐Ÿฐ MRS. M.E. MANNING (Elizabeth "Bettie" Perry Manning)
b: 4.23.1856
d: 1.3.1879 age: 22
d/o: John C. & Selina Whitley Perry

Bettie was born in Shiloh ๐Ÿ‘€ in Marengo County, Alabama. During the 1860 and 1870 census, the family is still living in Shiloh, AL. Her mother dies in 1876 in Brazos County and is buried in Shiloh Cemetery.

Bettie married William Thomas Manning on May 8, 1878 in Brazos County.

I am assuming the carving on the top of her marker is showing that she died in childbirth and is buried with her baby.

William went to marry Ophelia Mills, and they had 9 children. He is buried in Hopewell Cemetery near Normangee.

๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Heavenly Birthday ๐ŸŽ‚

๐Ÿฐ EUGENE ARLEN CATOE
b: 4.21.1929
d: 5.1.2002 age: 73
s/o: George Walter & Sarah Catherine "Kate" Emert Catoe

Eugene was born in the Midway community of Madison Co., Texas. His father was hit by a car on Hwy 75 near Madisonville on July 28, 1935 - he died a few days later on Aug 1st. The 1930 & 1940 census show they continued to live in Madison county. The 1950 census states they were living in Houston and Eugene was a truck driver for a meat packing company. (His mom must have temporarily moved the family to north Brazos County or south Robertson county around 1937, because Eugene is in the King's Highway class photo. The King's Highway School was located on the McDonald property on Old San Antonio Road, AKA King's Highway.).

He married Dorothy Hardin Gomez in 1951 in Harris Co., Tx. Dorothy was already the mother of 5 children: Fred, Juanita, Sammie, Mikeinal "Butch" & Doris.

He served in the US Army during the Korean conflict ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
