In March of 1976, Gene Drewery established the Hunterdale Jr. Vol. Fire Department for his Eagle Scout project. Tonight we celebrated the 50th anniversary of our Junior Department. Many of the original members were able to attend. We missed those that could not be here and we remember those who have passed away. Two of the original advisors were also with us tonight. Thank you to all of you for paving the way for our youth. Many young men and women have passed through our doors. Many of those have chosen a career in public service. Many have also continued as a volunteer.

We would like to thank everyone that participated in our 2nd Annual Golf tournament yesterday at CCCC. A very big thank you to ALL of our sponsors. Without each of the participants and sponsors we would not have had a very successful day. We are looking forward to next year.

Please remember, the 4 pm burning law is still in effect. Even though the law states no burning until after 4 pm, please use extreme caution and be mindful of the wind and weather. We have had several calls because of outdoor burning, some before 4 pm. Also, there is also a permanent no burn policy within the city limits of Franklin.

Virginia’s spring fire season is here, officially Feb. 15 – April 30. During that time, the statewide burn law is in effect, which prohibits outdoor fires between midnight and 4 p.m. 🔥🚫

Don't be fooled by the snow! Most of Virginia is in a drought caused by months of below-average rainfall. Already this year, DOF has responded to 80 wildfires that have burned nearly 800 acres.

The best ways you can prevent wildfires:
🔥 Wait until after the fire season to burn yard debris
🔥 If you must burn, avoid windy days
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended
🔥 Know the state burn law and local restrictions
