KCEOC Head Start will remain open to serve children.
KCEOC’s Commitment to Service- We will remain open!
As the Federal Shutdown continues to cause uncertainty for the programs that depend on federal grant funds, KCEOC remains focused on the families and children that participate in those programs, specifically the Head Start Program.
KCEOC’s federal funding for the Head Start program will end on Nov. 1st. New funding cannot be disbursed while the government is shut down.
That means the 900 children who learn and thrive at KCEOC Head Start centers will be at risk of losing access to services.
KCEOC and the Board of Directors have been working on a detailed plan to prevent children from suffering through the effects of a shutdown. KCEOC’s Board of Directors decided to take on the risk to continue operations by seeking a line of credit. It is hoped that once funding is resumed, the agency will be able to pay off the lenders. KCEOC is responsible for all interest accrued and must pay the interest with non-federal funds. This money will come from agency resources that are normally used to fill gaps between programs and services; this will come mainly from donations.
Taking risks in times of uncertainty can be overwhelming. The real risk is children not receiving early childhood interventions, education, meals, health screenings, and not being safe while their parents are at work, trying to provide a better future for their families.
The need for Head Start and other programs is far greater than any risk, and we are committed to remaining open for as long as possible. In short, we will NOT be shutting down operations on November 1st.
