Before submitting your next application, review your résumé for these 10 common mistakes:
✅ Outdated or irrelevant experience
✅ Graduation dates that are not required
✅ “References available upon request”
✅ GPA information that does not strengthen your application
✅ Excessive formatting, graphics or icons
✅ Generic soft skills without supporting examples
✅ Long, wordy bullet points
✅ A full street address
✅ Weak verbs such as “helped” or “assisted”
✅ An objective statement that does not demonstrate value Focus on relevant experience, measurable accomplishments, and strong action verbs such as “led,” “developed,” “launched,” “increased,” or “transformed.”

An obsolete pay system. Service members waiting weeks or months for pay once mobilized. Active duty pay offices who shrug when pay issues cascade. Units "running out of money" or confused about travel benefits - including travel to drill.

Reserve pay is complicated, but ROA will help arm you with what you need to know - and give you an opportunity to tell us what needs to be fixed - in our next ReserveConnect Forums webinar!

Join ROA on September 8th at 7pm ET for an informative discussion on Reserve Component pay and travel benefits—what you’re entitled to, where common problems arise, and what solutions may be on the horizon. Be sure to click the link in the comments to register!

Get ready for the 2027 NGAKY Annual Conference & Engagement Events!

Join us in Frankfort, Kentucky, on February 26–27, 2027, for a weekend dedicated to building collaborative defense partnerships and connecting Kentucky's Guard, leaders, and partners. This year, we are taking a fresh approach—focusing on meaningful networking and community connection rather than traditional large exhibits.

Weekend Highlights:

Friday, Feb 26 - Mixer Night: An evening of camaraderie with specific mixers for Warrant Officers (VFW Post 4075), Enlisted (Cooperage Bar), and Company & Field Grade Officers (The Foundry), and President's Reception (invitation only).

Saturday, Feb 27 - Business & Industry Day: We've exclusively reserved The Cooperage Bar for our industry partners to enjoy a full day of catered networking and engagement.

Saturday Night - Industry Partner Night: Partners are encouraged to host their own events and connect with attendees across Frankfort.

While display space is limited, partners are welcome to bring materials for a four-foot table to help drive conversation. Be on the lookout for veteran specials offered throughout Frankfort.

Partnering for Success. Connecting for the Future.
