Time to shine a light on our broken foster care system… with permission, of course.

This is about our system as a whole, not social workers who work hard and do the MOST impossible and heartbreaking job to protect the kids in our community. We see you and appreciate you!

We are called to be a voice for those who don’t have one. These boys are beautiful, we love them and they are exactly why we do what we do.

Here’s their story:

Their older sister tried to commit su***de in July. It was a near-fatality. Their mom is a single mother. She needed to be in the ICU with her daughter. During that time Shaine Kerns and I let the boys stay with us.

The boys built a relationship with us and our kids. They felt loved and we made sure they felt safe. We prayed with them, taught them to talk to Jesus when they felt scared and provided stability during a scary time of uncertainty. They expressed their fear of going back to foster care where they previously experienced substantiated abuse.

On July 31st the boys went to see a movie with their father. They were removed from the movie, and placed with a foster family in another city. They were not allowed to speak to their mother because it was 4:30 pm and time for the work day to end. They are now in a new school. I can only imagine how scared they feel.

Shaine and I have reached out expressing our willingness to become fictive kin to the boys to let them stay with us. We want them!! So far, we have not been able to make this happen. It’s been almost a month.

The boys have asked for us to be their foster parents. They miss our kids. Their voices aren’t being heard.

Please pray for them and for us. We believe God has good plans and we are trusting him to make a way.
