Congratulations to ZeroV Member Program Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. on its new Mobile Advocacy Unit, which is currently on a ribbon-cutting tour with upcoming stops in Hart, Allen, Edmonson, Butler, and Barren Counties. ZeroV is excited for BRASS as it launches this new tool for bringing a safe, private, and welcoming space to survivors wherever they are in the program's 10-county service area. Help is on the way in the Barren River Area Development District!

Calling all Telecommunicators! ☎️ 📱 Join ZeroV and Master Telecommunicator Jennet Sullivan for a free training about domestic violence on August 31.

Trainer Jennet Sullivan helps telecommunicators improve their understanding of domestic violence and empowers them with the knowledge, understanding, and healthy empathy necessary to respond effectively to people in crisis. She is a Master Telecommunicator and licensed instructor with more than 20 years of experience in call-taking and dispatching. She currently works as the Accreditation and Compliance Coordinator and a reserve Emergency Dispatcher at a municipal police department in Texas.

This training will be offered in person and online simultaneously. Registration is coming soon!

Calling all Telecommunicators! 📱☎️ Join ZeroV and Master Telecommunicator Jennet Sullivan for a free training about domestic violence on August 31.

Telecommunicators are the initial first responders to speak with domestic violence victims who call 911 for help. The way telecommunicators process these calls, gather information, and interact with callers impacts not only the immediate outcome of that call and the safety of those involved, but also the caller’s faith in the criminal justice system.

In this training, participants will learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, the barriers victims face when calling for help, the challenges associated with leaving an abusive partner, as well as best practices for call-taking and scene safety assessments. Participants will also learn the importance of 911 calls for prosecution and telecommunicator liability.

Although the 2026 legislative session concluded in mid-April, policy changes, committee meetings, and advocacy remain in full swing during the period between legislative sessions known as the Interim.

There are three more opportunities to boost your advocacy skills this summer with a ZeroV housing training!

The interactive trainings will cover strategies for managing burnout and compassion fatigue, tips for navigating housing challenges, coordinated entry forms, VAWA housing protections and updates, safety planning and protective orders, and an overview of ZeroV's housing program. The content is tailored to housing advocates who serve survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

In 2024, a survivor in ZeroV's Housing Program shared her dream of walking out her front door to pick food for dinner. As a dedicated housing case manager and avid gardener herself, ZeroV's Sandra Dye helped make this survivor's dream come true by gathering materials and hosting a raised bed building and planting day for survivors at ZeroV's Hazard Housing Units. Now, Sandra and partners from LKLP Community Action Council host summer garden planting and harvest parties for survivors and children at ZeroV's housing units in Hazard, KY, each summer.

This year, ZeroV Housing client Christina had already planted one of the raised beds in the vegetable garden! She also planted something special of her own: a flower gifted to her from her daughter on Mother's Day. On the day of the June garden party, survivors worked together to plant the remaining beds with tomatoes, peppers, squash, and zucchini, and added garden decor, including a bird house contributed by Housing client Janice, which she crafted from clothespins.

Despite the very hot summer day, everyone had fun, including the kids, who enjoyed a pizza party and a bouncy house! What was once just a survivor's dream is now a sustainable team effort that survivors and their children look forward to every year on their journey to heal from abuse.
