Received a terribly sad update from Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt. He says at least one officer has been killed, several injured after being shot. Injured officers are being taken to hospitals in Prestonsburg, Lexington, and Huntington, WV.

Hunt said the incident stemmed from a domestic violence investigation earlier in the day. When four Floyd Co. deputies went to the house to serve an EPO, he said they immediately came under fire. He said two were hit immediately.

Hunt said they called for backup and officers from other agencies began arriving. Some of those officers were hit as well. Hunt estimated five or six officers in all were shot. Kentucky State Police said the shooter is in custody, but did not say what condition they were in.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident. They don’t expect to release any more information until morning.
