Today we recognize Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and serves as a reminder that freedom, equity, and justice remain ongoing pursuits.

As public health professionals, we understand that healthy communities are built when every individual has the opportunity to thrive. On this Juneteenth, we honor the resilience, contributions, and leadership of Black Americans while reaffirming our commitment to advancing health equity across Kentucky and beyond.

Public health successes are happening every day across Kentucky, and we want to help shine a spotlight on the incredible work being done by our members.

We invite you to share your success stories with us. Whether it’s an innovative program, a successful collaboration, a community outreach effort, a completed project, or a milestone worth celebrating, your story can help highlight the impact of public health in action.

By sharing your achievements, you help raise awareness of the important work taking place across our state, inspire fellow professionals, and demonstrate the collective difference we make in the lives of those we serve.

No accomplishment is too big or too small. Every success story contributes to the larger picture of public health excellence and community impact.

If you or your team have a story to tell, we would love to hear it. Join us in celebrating the dedication, innovation, and progress happening in communities across Kentucky. Thank you for the work you do each day to make a difference.

β˜€οΈ Summer is here, Kentucky!

Warmer weather means more time outdoors, but it also brings unique health and safety challenges. As you enjoy everything summer has to offer, remember these simple tips to protect yourself and your family:

πŸ’§ Stay hydrated throughout the day
🧴 Apply and reapply sunscreen regularly
πŸ‘΅ Check on older adults and vulnerable neighbors during extreme heat
🦟 Protect yourself from ticks and mosquitoes
🏊 Practice safe swimming and water recreation

Small steps can make a big difference in keeping our communities healthy all season long.

What are your favorite ways to stay healthy during a Kentucky summer?

As Mental Health Awareness Month is getting ready to come to a close, the conversation does not end here. Mental well-being is something that deserves attention, support, and compassion every day of the year.

KPHA remains committed to advancing public health efforts that strengthen mental health resources across Kentucky communities. Through advocacy, collaboration, and education, we can continue working toward greater access to care and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health challenges.

Small actions can make a lasting impact. Checking in on someone, prioritizing your own well-being, and creating space for honest conversations all help build stronger, healthier communities.

No one should feel alone in their struggles, and together, we can continue creating a culture of support and understanding.

Skin cancer is the fastest growing cancer in the United States. Kentucky ranks 7th in the nation and the incidence of skin cancer is increasing, especially among farmers whose occupation exposes them to high amounts of UV radiation. This webinar will report on an ongoing study sponsored by a USDA grant to KSU to evaluate skin cancer awareness, knowledge and prevalence among Kentucky’s small-scale and limited resource farmers who are occupationally vulnerable and related topics.

This Memorial Day, KPHA honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Their sacrifice reminds us that strong communities are built through courage, service, and dedication to something greater than ourselves. As public health professionals continue working to protect and improve lives every day, we pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedoms.

Today, we honor their legacy with gratitude and remembrance.

🌸 A Message from the KPHA President 🌸

β€œKPHA Members,
I hope you are all having an amazing Spring here in our beautiful Commonwealth. This is always one of my favorite times of year to be a Kentuckian! When we started our year together in March 2026, I shared information about the journey we would take together in KPHA this year. This month, as we are in the height of graduation season, we have the opportunity to add to our travel crew and increase the level of travel expertise available for our voyage.”

As we celebrate graduation season across Kentucky, KPHA is proud to welcome the next generation of public health professionals into our field. From workforce development initiatives to student engagement opportunities, our association remains committed to supporting and empowering the future of public health in the Commonwealth.
