The Kentucky Historical Society's 1792 Store has a 20% off special for Frankfort and Franklin County residents (photo ID required) in person AND online! All week, KHS's Thomas D. Clark for Kentucky History, Kentucky Military Museum (State Arsenal), and Old Capitol Building are open for tours! And Wed-Sat, KHS's Library is open for research!

1:00 pm - Col. Taylor’s Bourbon History Tour – hosted by the Frankfort-Franklin County Tourist and Convention Commission and guided by Russ Kennedy – IN-PERSON – Capacity: 9 people. Join Colonel E. H. Taylor for a 45-60 minute guided walking tour in historic downtown Frankfort. Historian Russ Kennedy will entertain and inform you about Frankfort’s rich and spirited history! The tour will begin at 1pm sharp at the Frankfort Visitor Center, 300 St. Clair, Ste. 102. Masks required. Please maintain 6ft. from participants not from your household. Suitable for ages 16 and above. Registration is required by contacting Visit Frankfort @ (502) 875-8687 or (800) 960-7200. Cost is $11 per person and tours are limited to nine (9) people. 2:00 pm - Our History: Kentucky State University at 135 – hosted by Kentucky State University – VIRTUAL – 135 Years of Excellence. Kentucky State University is honoring its history with a new book and panel discussion as it celebrates its 135th anniversary. As part of the anniversary celebration, Kentucky State is hosting “Our History: Kentucky State University at 135” on May 18 at David H. Bradford Hall in Carl H. Smith Auditorium. The event takes place virtually at 2 p.m. and can be viewed virtually on Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/KyStateU) or via Zoom at 980 1850 3350 and 391226. The event will serve as the debut of Kentucky State University’s history book, written by Dr. John Hardin. Hardin will be on hand for the signing of new history books for $86. Limited seating will be available for the event, and COVID-19 precautions will be in place to ensure the health and safety of University guests. The event will also feature a panel of University and community members who have witnessed Kentucky State’s history, including President M. Christopher Brown II, Hardin, former University presidents, and more special guests. This conversation will feature members sharing firsthand perspectives of the institution’s growth and challenges, with a special focus on the school’s increasing academic preeminence, the development of the campus, and growth in campus diversity, athletics, and more. Renee Shaw, director of public affairs and moderator of Kentucky Educational Television’s (KET) public affairs programming and content, will serve as the panel moderator. 4:00 pm - Bourbon Archaeology: Unearthing Spirited Histories with Nick Laracuente, Kentucky’s Bourbon Archaeologist – hosted by City of Frankfort and presented by Nick Laracuente, Kentucky’s Bourbon Archaeologist – VIRTUAL – The distilling industry is a critical piece of Kentucky’s history and its continued success. Nick will discuss the three tiers of distilleries (moonshine, farm, and industrial) and how they both influenced and were influenced by economic, social, and technological trends in Kentucky. This talk will highlight findings from archaeological investigations at each type of distillery and discuss similar opportunities at local sites. This presentation will only be available via Zoom and will not be available afterward, so don’t miss this presentation!
