On June 9th 2026, the Franconia Soaring Foundation (FSF) hosted two NH Career and Technical Centers based at Littleton High School (Littleton, NH) and Kennett High School (Conway, NH). Both of these schools have been actively teaching a STEM Aviation program developed by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and sponsored by the FSF.

The weather was perfect and 22 students received introductory ground instruction, the opportunity to warm up in a flight simulator, and glider flights with licensed FAA instructors. They also participated in the daily safety brief and learned safe ground handling procedures. All of the students received a glider logbook endorsed by their flight instructor as well as a T-Shirt from the FSF.

Lunch, hot dogs, and hamburgers were provided and cooked by educator Mr. Jeremy Brown from Littleton High School (Hugh Gallen CTC). Kennett's teacher (MWV Career Technology Center) Mr. Scott Lajoe was available and helping out as well.

An honorable mention and a big thank you to Ed Bergeron and the Eastern Slopes Aviation Academy (ESAA) at Fryeburg Maine who were also instrumental in getting the STEM programs into both schools, to the Foundation’s generous donors whose contributions make this day possible, and to the volunteers from the Franconia Soaring Association (FSA).

It was a pleasure and joy for both the FSF and the FSA volunteers to see the smiles and excitement when these young potential aviators experience the joy of soaring; motorless flight. We look forward to next year and welcoming many more new students!

Special thanks go out to Glenn Mori, the FSF Education Committee Chair, whose leadership and energy brought it all together, and to FSF Director and mentor Kristen Gould for engaging with the students on STEM opportunities!

We are pleased to announce several important changes to our Board of Directors following our most recent Annual Meeting. First, a big shout out to Joe Kwasnik as he leaves the Board and moves on to other business. Joe was our first Finance and Fundraising Chairman and was instrumental in successfully spearheading those efforts.

Next, we are happy to announce that we created a new appointed position, that of Webmaster. Congrats and a big thank you to Max Lareau for accepting that position.

Finally, two new Directors were elected onto the Board, Jason Piper and Kristen Gould. We are super excited to have Jason and Kristen join us and share their fresh perspectives. Jason is a seasoned glider pilot, professional pilot, and Certified Flight Instructor. His experience will be a valuable asset as we continue to refine and improve our educational mission. Kristen is a career Environmental Engineer with a passion for mentoring youth in STEM programs, science fairs, and Big Brothers Big Sisters programs. We look forward to expanding our youth engagement programs under her leadership. Welcome, Jason and Kristen!

We are eagerly looking forward to hosting our 6th annual STEM Day, where Aviation STEM students from the Mount Washington Valley Career and Technical Center and the Hugh Gallen Career and Technical Center join us for an immersive day in flight operations. Students will participate in the daily safety brief, learn how to preflight the aircraft, participate in ground handling operations, fly a glider flight simulator, and get their first flight lesson in an actual glider. Afterwards, they will be presented with their first pilot logbook, endorsed by a Federal Aviation Administration Certified Flight Instructor. Feel free to swing by tomorrow on June 9th (inclement weather back-up June 11th) to see the future of aviation unfold before your very eyes!

Do you do business in New Hampshire, or work for a New Hampshire business? The Community Development Finance Authority (https://nhcdfa.org/investing-in-nh-communities/tax-credit-program/) awarded the Franconia Soaring Foundation over $400,000 in state tax credits to sell to NH businesses interested in supporting construction of the new multipurpose, multi-user Training Center in Franconia. Credits and pledges were initially due by March 31, 2026 but we recently received a 3-month extension. We have less than $200,000 left to offer NH businesses, so please consider this waning opportunity for your NH business or employer to turn a tax liability into an investment in the community. Pledges can be made at https://nhcdfa.org/investing-in-nh-communities/electronic-pledge/ . Thank you for your consideration!

Our new solar array is online! We are excited to report the successful installation and commissioning or our 53,000 Kilowatt-hour/year roof-mounted solar array. This array is capable of meeting all of the Training Center's energy needs with a 100% clean and renewable energy source. When construction of the building is complete in 2026, it will be capable of supporting year-round training and recreational activities with net-zero energy consumption. Many thanks to all the businesses purchasing NH business tax credits through the NH Community Development Finance Authority (https://nhcdfa.org/investing-in-nh-communities/tax-credit-program/), especially Revision Energy whose generous support and quality workmanship brought this project to fruition. Spread the word! We still have approximately $280,000 in New Hampshire business tax credits for 2026 available for purchase! If you (or someone you know) has a NH tax liability for Business Profits, Business Enterprise, or Business Insurance Premium, and want to see your business taxes help fund STEM programs, you should consider purchasing tax credits from our Foundation. Our Foundation, located at the only remaining Gliderport serving New Hampshire and Maine, supports programs that prepare our youth for future success by exposing them to real-world examples of algebra, trigonometry, geography, mathematics, meteorology, and aeronautics.

Tax credits are a great way to reduce your tax liabilities while demonstrating your support for youth and community activities. Please contact our Foundation President, Tom Ganse, at [email protected], to learn more about how we support youth programs, as well as the local and state communities. Also, additional information on the tax credit program is available at https://nhcdfa.org/investing-in-nh-communities/tax-credit-program/. Hurry, all remaining tax credits will be sold by March 31, 2026, so get yours while you still can!
