3 days until Band Camp!

What do you need to bring to band camp?

1. Water
2. Instrument (if at home)
3. Anything you need for your instrument (mouthpiece, reeds, cork grease, slide grease, valve oil, sticks, neck strap, etc.)
4. Music
5. Lunch each day
6. Signed permission slip for Wednesday/Friday (there will be paper copies available Monday)
7. Closed toe shoes
8. Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat)
9. Pencil
10. A good attitude

I am so excited to meet all of you and get to making art on the field and in the band room!

Please make sure that you are eating and sleeping well before camp each night as well as eating breakfast in the morning. While we avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day, it will be in the 80s all week while we are working hard on the field, so being properly fueled and hydrated is essential.

Introductions - Marching Band Camp 2026

Greetings everyone,

I hope you are all soaking up the last bit of summer and are enjoying your respective county fairs these couple of weeks. With only 5 days until our marching band camp this year, I wanted to touch base with some important details, and more importantly to introduce myself. I apologize for the lengthy email, but want to cover all my bases! Please share this with your parents. I am waiting on my access to Harmony, then will follow up with them.

About Me
My name is Mr. Kilpatrick (Mr. K is fine), and I am thrilled to be joining you all in Francesville to learn what West Central is all about. Mr. Sholey and I have been in contact to make sure that I am up to speed for the season and to make this transition as easy as possible. Our wonderful booster organization is also helping me make sure we are ready to have a successful band camp and season. While you will have plenty of time to get to know me, here is a little bit about me: I am originally from Lansing, Michigan and my love for music comes from the countless afternoons spent singing hymns with my family with my Great Grandmother on the piano. My main instrument is saxophone, and I received my Masters in Saxophone Performance from Michigan State University after studying Music Education at Western Michigan University. Outside of music, I like anything outside, primarily hiking, running, or kayaking.

Band Camp Schedule
Band Camp is Scheduled for Monday, August 3rd to Friday, August 7th 8:00am-5:00pm each day. Kylea has planned some team bonding activities for Monday and Wednesday after 5:00, and we will have our annual cookout Friday at 5:00. I have attached the week schedule and will have detailed day-to-day agendas available before camp.

We will have a photographer with us on the first day of band camp. Seniors, please arrive at door 2 at 7:30 to get these taken before camp starts.

Parade rehearsals at Kankakee Valley High School
Wednesday and Friday of band camp we have arranged to join the Kankakee Valley High School marching band for part of their parade rehearsals. While this is primarily for the folks who are traveling on the joint trip to Disney, this will be a great help to all of us for the couple of parades we are marching in this season. Be on the lookout for a field trip permission slip for these days. Once I have confirmed with Mr. Carlson, this will go home via email and I will have physical copies available the first day of camp.

I cannot wait to meet you all this coming week and get to work on what I know will be an exciting show. If you believe you are receiving this email by mistake, or know someone that should be included but is not, let me know. You will hear from me more in the coming days, but in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, thoughts, or just to introduce yourself.

Dear West Central band students, parents, and community members,

As I reflect on the past five years, I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the privilege of directing the bands at West Central. During that time, I have had the opportunity to get to know this wonderful community and to watch us grow together. It is with mixed emotions that I share that my tenure at West Central will be coming to an end this summer.
I have accepted a position at Kankakee Valley Middle School. While I have felt welcomed, supported, and respected throughout my time at West Central, this was a decision I needed to make for my family. With my oldest daughter entering third grade and my two younger children beginning school in the near future, I believe that working closer to home will allow me to be more present for my family and spend more time with them as they grow.
I will never forget my five years at West Central. I could not have asked for a better place to begin my career, learn as an educator, and grow alongside our students. While our ensembles have changed in size over the years, the growth in musicianship, character, and sense of community within the band program is what I will always be most proud of.
Please know that I will do everything I can to help ensure a smooth transition for the program. I am committed to assisting in any way possible as the search for my successor moves forward. I am confident that the band program will continue to thrive and achieve great things in the years ahead.
I also want to reassure everyone that the Disney trip this October remains completely intact. Nothing about the trip will change, except that I will be attending as a Kankakee Valley director and will still have the opportunity to work with and support the West Central students throughout the experience.
I hope I am never considered a stranger. I would be honored to accept invitations to future concerts, events, and performances, and I look forward to seeing the continued success of the students and program. Thank you for making my time at West Central so meaningful and memorable.
I wish all of you a wonderful summer and a successful school year ahead. Please remember that I am only an email away.

On May 15th and 16th members of the West Central Bands participated in music in the parks earning a superior rating and placing 3rd out 5 bands in our division. Afterwards the students got to spend the day at Cedar Point as part of the experience. Congrats to all students who participated!!
