We are closed today. In observance of Juneteenth, the United Way of Tri-County and our food security programs; Pearl Street Cupboard & Café, Marlborough Community Cupboard, and WHEAT Community Connections, will be closed today, Friday, June 19.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, marking the effective end of slavery in the United States. Today, we honor this important moment in our nation's history and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice for all.

At WHEAT Community Connections, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do, and friends Diane and Rose are a perfect example of that. 💙

Both volunteer on Tuesdays at our food pantry, helping serve neighbors in Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, Lancaster, and Sterling. Diane, a retired teacher from Clinton High School, and Rose, who retired from a law firm specializing in real estate law. After trying different volunteer roles and days, Tuesdays became their day.

For Diane, volunteering is about giving back. "I feel fortunate," she says. "It feels good to help, especially now when we hear so much about people struggling and not having enough food."

Rose says one of her favorite things about volunteering is the sense of family. "We miss it when we can't be here," she shared. "The staff and volunteers make you feel appreciated."

Both women value the flexibility WHEAT offers. If they can help, they simply sign up online. If they can't make it one week, there's no pressure. They've also noticed more people turning to the pantry for support, making their volunteer work even more important.

When asked what they would tell someone interested in volunteering, their answer was simple: "Just come in and try it out. Everyone is so welcoming." Whether it's the pantry, the kitchen, the office, or another role, they believe there's a place for everyone, and bringing a friend makes it even more fun.

Thank you, Diane and Rose, for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping our neighbors. We are so grateful to have you as part of the WHEAT family! 🌾

Please join us in welcoming Bella to WHEAT Community Connections! 🎉

Bella will be spending the next six weeks as an intern with our Food Pantry and Hot Meal Program, and we're thrilled to have her on board. A lifelong resident of the Greater Clinton area, Bella will be entering her senior year at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida this fall, where she is pursuing a double major in Spanish and International Relations & Global Affairs, along with double minors in Public Health and Economics.

Passionate about global and social justice issues, Bella has already gained valuable experience through study abroad opportunities in Geneva, Switzerland; Strasbourg, France; and Puerto Rico, where she worked alongside fellow students and local nonprofits addressing food insecurity and other community needs.

Bella hopes to build a career focused on helping people meet their basic human needs, making WHEAT Community Connections a perfect place to learn, serve, and make a difference. We are excited to have her as part of our team and look forward to the impact she'll make this summer!

Welcome, Bella! 💙

A special thank you to Nichole, who stopped by the Pearl Street Cupboard & Café today with two cases of water for our guests at tonight's dinner service. 💙

Nichole's stepson, Richard, volunteers in our food pantry every day, and it's clear that helping others is a family value. Their kindness and generosity remind us how much of a difference caring neighbors can make in the lives of those facing difficult times.

Thank you, Nichole and Richard, for your ongoing support of our mission and for helping us care for our community. We are so grateful for you both!

Summer hunger is real, and soon more local families than ever are turning to food pantries for help. A simple box of cereal can mean the difference between a child starting the day hungry or with a healthy breakfast.

Please help us meet this growing need by supporting MetroWest Medical Center 's Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive benefiting the Pearl Street Cupboard & Café and A Place to Turn.

📍 Donate through June 18 at the main lobby or cafeteria of two MetroWest Medical Center Locations. Framingham Union Hospital or Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick.

Every box helps. Every donation matters. Together, we can make sure local children and families have food on the table this summer. 🥣❤️

On Tuesday, June 9, the United Way of Tri-County’s Food Security Program, along with seven other local food security organizations, was honored at the Framingham Public Schools Annual Talent Recognition Ceremony. This new award category was created to recognize nonprofits that support students and their families outside the classroom, helping ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.

The evening also included a heartfelt tribute to our longtime President & CEO, Paul Mina. Fifteen years ago, Paul founded the Pearl Street Cupboard & Café with a simple vision: that no one in our community should go hungry. Under his leadership, it grew into one of the largest food pantries in Massachusetts, distributing more than 5 million pounds of food and serving thousands of local families each year.

Joe Mina, Food Security Director, accepted the award on behalf of the United Way of Tri-County.

Thank you to Adeyemi Ajao, Director of Partnerships, and Dr. Robert Tremblay, Superintendent of Framingham Public Schools, for their thoughtful recognition of Paul’s legacy and the important work being done by food security organizations across our community. It was a moving reminder of the power of collaboration and the lasting impact one person can have on so many lives. ❤️

Our 2026 Corporate 5K Beverage Sponsor, Lost Shoe Brewing and Roasting Company, brought their A-game and plenty of spirit! After quenching the thirst of hundreds of runners last Thursday, Lost Shoe generously donated 20% of their beer sales to the United Way. We are grateful for local businesses and organizations that truly get our mission and join us in lifting up those facing tough times. Grandparents, veterans, parents, students, friends - everyone needs a helping hand at some point. We celebrate those who step up and lead with heart!

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Dominique to the United Way of Tri-County family!

Today, June 8, marks Dominique's first day as our new Food Pantry Administrator and Volunteer Coordinator at the Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe. In this role, she will be supporting both our clients and the incredible volunteers who help make our mission possible every day.

While Dominique is new to the nonprofit sector, she brings valuable experience from her previous work in telemarketing and real estate. Originally from California, she has a deep appreciation for Massachusetts and enjoys exploring the many cities and towns that make our state so special.

Dominique loves meeting new people, working with data and technology, and is passionate about United Way's mission of caring for one another and strengthening our community. She is excited to support the Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe team and help ensure that every person who walks through our doors feels welcomed and supported.

Please help us give Dominique a warm welcome! 💙

🌸 **Thank You for Helping Us Grow Hope!** 🌸

A simple bouquet can make a big difference. Thanks to the generosity of our community and Stop & Shop Bloomin'4Good Program, United Way of Tri-County received $129 in May to support local hunger-relief efforts.

Every bouquet purchased helped make a positive impact for individuals and families facing food insecurity. We are grateful to everyone who participated and to Stop & Shop for making this program possible.

Since its launch, the Bloomin' 4 Good Program has supported 2,762 hunger-relief organizations and donated more than $1.9 million to communities across the country.

Thank you for helping turn flowers into hope for our neighbors in need. 💙🌸
