It turns out there's a national day for everything--including underwear! While National Underwear Day, is on Monday, August 5. It was created to celebrate underwear and the freedom of self-expression that comes with wearing it, Cocotree Kids is using it as a day to bring awareness to the fact that not everyone has access to new underwear. Cocotree Kids has a goal of raising $5,000 to provide over 1,400 at-risk kids throughout the state of Massachusetts with 10,000 pairs of new underwear. On June 28, 2024, the United States Government announced the redesignation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status for people in the country before June 3, 2024. Unfortunately, there are many people, often referred to as “notarios” who take advantage of immigrants. They say that they are qualified to help with immigration applications, but they are not.

JFS is pleased to announce the promotion of Senior Director, Lucia Panichella, to Chief of Programs and Partnerships. Ms. Panichella began her career at JFS as a graduate student intern while getting her Masters of Social Work from Boston University. In her 19 years at JFS, Ms. Panichella has gained a vast amount of experience working in, and later leading, programs supporting immigrants, refugees and older adults. In her new role, Ms. Panichella will continue to build upon these accomplishments to foster expansion of JFS’ work in these and other critical areas of community need.
