Foxboro Achievers Foxboro Achievers is a Toastmasters International club - a non-profit Public Speaking and Leadership training organization.

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. Do you want to improve your presentation and speaking skills for work? Perhaps you want to conquer your fear of speaking to an audience? Or maybe you want leadership opportunities, then Foxboro Achievers is the Toastmasters club for you. Foxboro Achievers

meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the Month from 7pm to 9pm, at the Boyden Library, 10 Bird Street, Foxboro, MA 02035

Summary of Achievers meeting on February 17, 2025

Usiku uwemi, Achievers! ("Good evening" in Tumbuka, a Bantu language from Northern Malawi, Eastern Zambia, and Tanzania)

We had a small turnout at our February 17 meeting; we had 6 people in attendance, including 2 guests.

Meeting began at 7:04 pm and ended at 8:34 pm.

Our president, Satish Srinivas, was out of the country visiting family for all of February. In his absence, Linda Burtt opened the meeting with the Toastmasters mission statement, then turned the meeting over to the evening's Toastmaster, Nate Adkins.

Nate opened with some comments about the opening ceremonies from last week's Winter Olympics.

Theme of the meeting was "Olympics". During introductions, we all shared our favorite Olympic events.

Linda Burtt gave a speech about an A.I. project she's doing at work.

Nate led the Table Topics, using the Topix card deck. Questions were as follows:

* (Mary) How often do you drink caffeine? Do you rely on it?
* (Diana) Are you forgetful, or do you tend to remember details like names, dates, etc?

Diana won the vote for best table topic.

Summary of Achievers meeting on December 2, 2025

We had a small turnout at our December 2 meeting; we had 7 people in attendance, including 1 guest..

Meeting began at 7:06 pm and ended at 8:13 pm.

Our President, Satish Srinivas, opened the meeting with a reading of the Toastmasters mission statement, and announced our plans for a Christmas party at Conrad's pub in Foxboro.

Satish then turned the meeting over to the evening's Toastmaster, Sujatha Karuppiah.

Theme of the meeting was "Philanthropy".

Annette Coleman was Wordmaster, with the word "ineffable":

After the break, Linda gave an evaluation of Satish's speech.

Sujatha led the Table Topics, which were as follows:

Summary of Achievers meeting on November 4, 2025

We had a small turnout at our October 21 meeting; we had 4 members in attendance.

Meeting began at 7:04 pm and ended at 7:56 pm.

Our President, Satish Srinivas, opened the meeting with a reading of the Toastmasters mission statement, and mentioned that October is considered the "month of doldrums", due to its typically stagnant weather patterns, especially in regions experiencing high pressure and little precipitation. This can lead to unchanging, dry conditions, contributing to a sense of monotony or boredom during this time.

Club business:

* We need to plan for a holiday party in December;
* Toastmasters conference is being held in Mansfield this year. $115 per person. This is the first time the conference is being held in our local area.
* Next meeting is 4th Tuesday; meeting rooms were unavailable for the 3rd Tuesday.

Satish the President then turned the meeting over to himself as Satish the Toastmaster of the Day.

Theme of the meeting was "Daylight Savings: Changing Times".

John Abreau was Wordmaster, with the word "spontaneous":

Linda gave a speech she had prepared for her Cyber Ethics class regarding the recently passed California Senate Bill 53 ("Artificial Intelligence Models: Large Developers"). The title of Linda's speech was "Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act".

We had a lengthy discussion of Linda's speech in lieu of table topics.

We took a short break after the group evaluation, then proceeded with Table Topics.

Rasheed led the table topics, using the Topix cards. Topics were as follows:

Our second speaker, Rasheed Mohammed, gave his Icebreaker speech, titled "Raising Kids in America".

Rasheed's speech was evaluated by Nate Adkins.

We took a short break from 7:40 PM to 7>49 PM, after which Annette and Nate gave their speech evaluations.

Annette led the table topics, in the form of a modified Yankee Swap. Topics were as follows:

Linda opened with the sad news that today is the first day that sun sets before 8:00 pm (sunset is at 7:59 pm tonight), and the days will just keep getting shorter until the winter solstice on December 21.

After Satish's speech, members who held a meeting role gave their reports.

Prince won the vote for Best Table Topic, with Kelly a close second.

After the reports, Linda asked our three guests for their feedback. All three guest reported having a positive experience.

During the reports, as General Evaluator, Linda highlighted Sujatha's use of the Japanese word "Ikigai".

According to Wikipedia, Ikigai (生き甲斐, literally. "a reason for being") is a Japanese concept referring to what an individual defines as the meaning of their life.

Summary of Achievers meeting on June 17, 2025

We had a good turnout at our June 17 meeting; we had 9 attendees, including 1 returning guest.

This is the final meeting of the 2024-2025 Toastmasters year; the Toastmasters year runs from July 1st to June 30th.

Meeting began at 7:02 pm and ended at 8:10 pm.

Linda Burtt opened the meeting with a reading of the Toastmasters mission statement, then turned the floor over to our President, Kunal Joarder.

Kunal welcomed everyone, and announced that we need to finalize the slate of new officers for the next Toastmasters year, which begins on July 1st. Officer roles for the new year need to be submitted to the international site by June 28.

Kunal then turned the meeting over to the evening's Toastmaster, John Abreau (me).

I opened with a few remarks, then, as Wordmaster, I introduced the word of the day.

Word of the day was "swelter":

Theme of the meeting was "Summer Solstice". The summer solstice is the moment the axial tilt of the Earth is perfectly aligned with the sun, with the Northern Hemisphere tilted toward the sun. In 2025, this occurred at 10:42 PM US/Eastern on Friday, June 20, 2025.

Jokemaster was John Abreau, with a joke about someone smoking while pumping gas.

We spent a few minutes having those with meeting roles explain the purpose and ex*****on of their respective roles.

We had no speeches, and therefore no speech evaluations, so we proceeded to Table Topics.

Kunal Joarder ran the Table Topics, with a list of aphorisms for participants to expand upon.

* (Annette Coleman) Rome was *NOT* built in a day.
* (John Abreau) Do not cry over spilled milk.
* (Sujatha Karuppiah) The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
* (Joe Korea) Every cloud has a silver lining.
* (Ashka Patel) Curiosity killed the cat.
* (Vakula Daruri) Better safe than sorry.
* (Nate Adkins) Do not put all your eggs in one basket.
* (Vakula Daruri, again) Birds of a feather, flock together.
* (Linda Burtt) Necessity is the mother of invention.

Sujatha Karuppiah won the vote for Best Table Topic.

Our next meeting is tonight, Tuesday, July 1, 2025. This is the first meeting of the new Toastmasters year.
