Your support over the last two years has allowed us to raise over $90,000! The first year, the money was used to fund research via Breakthrough T1 Foundation. Last year, we provided scholarships to families to attend Diabetes specific camps.
When starting this foundation, our goal was to find a way to best support our community in an impactful way. Below are a few notes we've received from families that were recipients of our scholarships last year. This feedback fueled our decision to continue supporting families and camps.
“Camp is such a hugely important thing for Hunter, and for all kids with T1D. Hunter has never experienced a sleepover with friends, even now at 15 years old.”
“As any parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes knows, diabetes care can often feel like a full-time job—one that brings with it significant emotional and mental stress. The opportunity to send our son to Camp Joslin is not only an investment in his self-confidence and growing independence in managing his care; it also provides our family with something equally valuable: peace of mind and a brief but meaningful respite from the constant oversight his condition requires.”
“One thing I think about often is how difficult it is to keep kids happy and safe during the summer when school is not in session, which is an extraordinarily expensive undertaking even for a family with two working parents. The pressure this puts on families is immense. For us, summer camps for our three children this summer will cost about $6,000, and we are going to work part-time and rely on the help of grandparents for 3–4 weeks in addition.”
This year, once again, the money raised will be used to provide scholarships to families and fund summer camps to hire medical staff, ensuring that every child with T1D can attend and enjoy summer fun without limitation.
Join us in making a difference and supporting our mission. Together, we can create opportunities for children with T1D to thrive and enjoy childhood to the fullest.
