Foxborough Commission on Disability accomplishments:

Contributed to the Marilyn Rodman Center for the Performing Arts to install a wheelchair lift so that performers in wheelchairs or people with mobility problems can perform on stage

Purchased Shake Awake Alarm Clocks which the Fire Department will distribute to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Worked with Debbie Giardino and the Recreation Depart

ment to design the new Booth Playground to be as safe and accessible as possible. Commission also donated money to buy a new swing that is fully accessible to all ages and abilities

Purchased accessible Picnic Tables for the Foxborough Common, Senior Housing at Carl Anon Court and the Sharon Wason Pavilion on Payson Road

Purchased exercise equipment for the Adaptive Physical Education Department at the Ahern Middle School

Purchased a magnifying device and large print keyboards to assist with low vision. Worked with the Children’s Department at the Boyden Library to purchase iCare books and other books that deal with children with special needs

The Foxborough Commission on Disability co-sponsored a movie Intelligent Lives, a film documenting the success of people with different abilities with the Attleboro and North Attleboro Commissions on Disability

Donated Safety Net Bracelets to Fire Department to help locate children with Special Needs or adults with Dementia

Commission co-partnered with the Department of Public Works to install an automatic door opener at the Public Safety Building

Above & Beyond awards are given to an individual and/or a business that helps individuals with special challenges in Foxborough

Commission on Disability Scholarships

The Foxborough Commission on Disability (FCOD) is announcing two $2,500 scholarships for Foxborough residents to further their education or career and is now accepting applications.

These two $2,500 annual awards support Foxborough residents:

· one for an individual with a disability pursuing higher education, which may include programs in a two or four- year college, a career or technical school, or a specialized program for persons with disabilities.

· one for an individual who is pursuing their post-secondary education in the Field of Disabilities, defined here as including public health, rehabilitation, therapeutic fields, special education, disability studies or a field related to disability and health.



Eligibility Requirements, applicants must:

Be a Foxborough resident.
For Disabled Individual Scholarship must have a disability.
For Disability Studies Scholarship must plan to attend (or are already enrolled in) a postsecondary educational institution in the Field of Disabilities.
Please note this scholarship is open to all Foxborough residents. This includes:

High Seniors enrolled in any schools (Charter, Technical, Religious, Home, Etc.)
Residents of all ages (returning students, gap year students)
Currently enrolled college students
Interested candidates are eligible to re-apply any year.

FCOD awards first-ever scholarships.

The Foxborough Commission on Disability awarded its first-ever scholarships.

Recipients are Dylan Kelley, who received $2.500 towards his tuition at Bridgewater State University where he is studying psychology, and Jamie DeVellis, who received $2,500 toward her tuition at the University of New Hampshire where she is pursuing a doctorate in occupational therapy.

Management at Cumberland Farms on Mechanic Street has gone above and beyond expectations to provide meaningful opportunities for individuals with special needs, according to the town’s commission on disability.

ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD

The Foxborough Commission on Disability has created two annual awards to recognize those that enhance the quality of lives of individuals with disabilities.

> Do you know of a business in Foxborough that employs individuals with disabilities?

> Do you know of a person residing in Foxborough who takes the extra step to be helpful to those with disabilities?

One award will be presented to a person and one award will be presented to a business.
