Gorgeous Diva, rescued from the kill pen in 2019 with what we discovered was a shattered pastern bone.

We gave her a weekend of love and comfort and in that weekend, she convinced me it wasn't her time.

Thanks to our awesome vet, Melanie Robinson, we gave her a chance. Her bone knitted and she was healed and here she is today, living her best life at Dreamcatchers Equine Rescue .

He gets his scoops, may need to cut back a little cause he also has Kathy Nolan spoiling him on the mornings she feeds.

With every rescue, be it owner surrender or police action, you will have horses that are not suitable for adoption.

It can be physical, behavioral, age or emotional issues that makes it hard or impossible to find forever homes.

We were blessed (or cursed lol) many years ago with a large property that has allowed us to offer sanctuary to these horses and just let them live out their lives.

Don't get me wrong, these horses don't cost nothing. They still need routine vet and farrier care but during 9 months of the year, they are pretty self sufficient.

Many of the horses we are providing sanctuary to came from other rescues who did not have the resources for the long term care they required.

Most of these guys have been with us for multiple years. Some have already graduated to the old fart barn, eventually every one of them will have that available when they get too old to live in pasture.

If you would like to help with the care of these guys we, and they, would be eternally grateful.

Old horses aren't easy nor are they inexpensive to care for but I happily share them with anyone wanting some horse therapy.

No, we don't ride them anymore but they love being brushed and pampered.

These are literally our most expensive residents. Most of them are missing teeth, all of them need the added nutrition of alfalfa pellts mixed with some sweet feed for flavor and added probiotics, minerals and vitamins provided by and awesome product, Equipride.

We rarely ask for help but always appreciate it.

These guys go thru at least 2 pallets (80 bags) of alfalfa pellets, 3 bags of Equipride and 60 to 80 bags of sweet feed monthly.

You may say why bother, why spend so much on horses who "no longer serve a purpose". To this i say, These are my friends. They have given their whole lives to humans, they deserve a happy healthy retirement.

We monitor them for signs of discomfort or pain and take what ever measure necessary to make them comfortable. Quality of life is our goal and when that can't be achieved, we help them cross that bridge in a peaceful, respectful way.

I always say if they eat, drink, p**p and p*e and engage with their herd, who am I to take this away from them.

Bodacious Casanova

His journey began in June of 2011 when he found himself, along with 3 others, in a shelter in California.

He was deemed a killer because of aggressive tendencies and only approved to go to a rescue.

At 13, still a stallion and being stalled next to another stallion and his mares, the aggressive confusion was understandable.

The rescue team in California contacted us to see if we could help. We said yes, of course, but did not have the resources to pay for transport. I said if they could get him to us, we would take it from there.

Casanova (Big Bucks) arrived at DreamCatchers on July 1, 2011.

We immediately knew he wasn't a "killer". He was respectful and calm and led easily to his stall.

We gelded him and began his training evaluation and found he was fully trained under saddle.

Within weeks of arriving, he caught the eye of a multiple adopter and as they say, the rest is history.

This misunderstood boy had found his soul mate and his forever home with Lynne Ross . They had 15 glorious years together. Many trail adventures as well as much success in the amateur show ring.

Their journey came to an end on June 10th when, after at least a year of struggling with old age issues, Caz was finally ready for his last journey over that beautiful bridge to pain free pastures.

We layed Bodacious Casanova to rest here at DreamCatchers where his journey had begun.

His soul mate accompanied him and stayed by his side until the vet arrived. He quietly went to sleep and crossed peacefully.

Truly a rescue love story❤️❤️❤️

It's been a few weeks since I posted farrier day pics. The awesome Justin kicked butt helping us to get close to caught up after missing the last couple Wednesdays.

Many thanks to the amazing Kathy Nolan and Rusty for their help! Many feet make fewer trips to pasture. Lol.
