Project Vietnam Foundation Changing lives through healthcare for the impoverished people of Vietnam

Project Vietnam Foundation has its roots in the International Medical Assistance Program of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which started providing assistance to Vietnam in 1996. As the program grew over the years, AAP member Dr. Quynh Kieu realized a dedicated organization was needed in order to meet demand for services. Project Vietnam Foundation was established in August 2007 as a 501

(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. From the Northern highlands to the flooded plains of the Mekong Delta, Project Vietnam has been organizing mission trips to underserved areas of Vietnam continuously since 1996. We have focused on serving ethnic minorities and poor families in some of the country’s most remote rural locations. We bring health care to the needy through surgical corrections for children with birth deformities and eye defects, medical exams and treatment to villages and schools, and training to health personnel at all level of the medical system, from villages to hospitals and academic centers. Our long term programs have assisted the development of crucial services: newborn health, emergency care, cardiac treatment, training for disaster management, and promoted important guidelines for children health care. Our Newborn Care Initiative is especially successful, in creating model projects and training programs to decrease infant mortality. Going on three medical missions every year, our medical teams have improved the health of tens of thousands of children and their families, and our training programs benefit thousands of children. We could not have achieved such success without the contribution of our donors and friends, the collaboration of our partner organizations, and the heartfelt involvement of our volunteers.

Our first summer primary care mission in Trà Vinh, Vietnam, was a resounding success!

​Thanks to the dedication of 110 volunteers (including 45 students), our team:

- ​Served over 2,300 medical patients and filled thousands of prescriptions.
- ​Provided dental care to 407 patients, completing more than 1,150 procedures.
- ​Performed 1,900 eye exams for children and adults.
- ​Distributed gifts, scholarships, and wheelchairs to individuals and families across the community.
- Had four mentoring meetings between the students and medical professionals to help the students inspire by the field and get real life experiences from the professionals.

​A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers, supporters, and sponsors. This impactful work would not be possible without your generosity and commitment!

A huge THANK YOU goes out to members of the Project Vietnam - University of the Pacific Chapter … for assembling and donating 160 dental kits for our upcoming July Primary Care Mission in Vietnam.

Chapter presidents and founders, Katherine Bui and Samantha Thai, visited the PVNF President, Dr. Luan Nguyen, MD, in May to deliver the kits.

“Project Vietnam University of the Pacific Chapter is a student-run volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the national Project Vietnam Foundation (PVNF). Our goal is to raise funds for ongoing medical missions in Vietnam and to serve as the first active chapter in Northern California. Through hands-on service events and educational opportunities, we strive to introduce students to careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and other health-related fields, which are the same branches represented in Project Vietnam’s international medical missions.”
