Today is November 2nd, the Day of the Dead / el Dia de Los Mu***os, and the altar created by Nico’s mother, Magdalena, this year is a beautiful as ever!

For 2021, a Day of the Dead altar honoring DJ Nico Caliente, the “Sexy Mexi” who managed Johnny’s on 2nd before his untimely death six years ago, will be set up by his mother, Magdalena Lowe, in her home in Fountain Green. Visitors are welcome to come Tues, Nov 2, thru Sat, Nov 6, by calling 801-688-0705 to arrange a time. Visitors are also invited to bring photos of Nico or other items to place in the altar or display nearby.

A Day of the Dead altar was erected by Magdalena, the mother of DJ Nico Caliente, in the home of his older brother in Cancun to honor him and other departed loved ones. This was the third year in a row, since Nico’s untimely death, she has set up such an altar in Cancun. Next year’s altar will probably be in the same location. But, plans for November 1st and 2nd of 2020 envision the altar being in beautiful Puebla, Mexico—where Nico was born AND where his favorite holiday, Cinco de Mayo, also got its start. You are invited to be there then to also witness the planting of a tree in Nico’s memory that will be fertilized by some of his ashes (in keeping with his expressed wishes.)

Sept. 21, 2019 will be the 4th anniversary of Nico's death, which left tooo many of us broken hearted. Many of us sorely miss having the Sexy Mexi and DJ Nico Caliente in our lives.

Next year, will will mark the 5th anniversary of Nico's liberation from being stuck on this plane of duality with all the rest of us, who are still here--experiencing heaven and hell--by planting a tree with some of his ashes. Perhaps he had some prescience, because not long before he died, Nico told his mom, Magdalena, that the idea of having a tree grow from his ashes had come to him recently.

Because the Day of the Dead was one of DJ Nico Caliente's favorite holidays, the foundation will kick off its first photo contest, in his honor, on Nov. 2, 2017. On that date, fans of EDM will be invited to begin entering favorite pics of a favorite DJ in action. The contest will end on Nico's birthday, Jan. 1, 2018. The photo with the most on-line "likes" will win for the DJ, an amazing opportunity to perform at the grand-daddy of all Cinco de Mayo festivals, on May 5, 2018 in the beautiful Colonial city of Puebla, Mexico (where the holiday began and is the biggest annual celebration); and win for the fan a chance to join in the Day of the Dead festivities, on Nov. 2, 2018 in Cancun on Mexico's Riveria Maya. When the contest's rules and procedures are finalized they will be announced here; so, stay tuned by following the Nico Caliente Foundation here on FaceBook.
