Due to forecasted snowfall Sunday Merrick State Park Staff will be only plowing the main entrance and up to the boat landing. The park still remains open for use however the gates to the North and South campground will be closed. With warmer temperatures the past few weeks the roads would sustain more damage from plowing than leaving them snow covered. The roadway may not be plowed until Monday based on conditions on Hwy 35 as staff needs to travel up from Perrot State Park. Thank you for your understanding.

Tomorrow's program (Saturday, June 21st, 7:00pm) at the Nature Center is "Science Fun with Ed". Get ready for kitchen table science demos (vinegar/baking soda, making "slime", non-Newtonian baking soda/water), some 'tricks' and, given the date, JUNE 21, demos and discussions about the earth/sun relationship that gives us northerners the "longest" day of the year.

FUN chemistry and physics, Ed’s target audiences are ages 5-10 years old, and he keeps it fast, fun & informative enough that younger and older folks will also enjoy the presentation.

If you plan to participate in the hands-on program, we suggest wearing old clothes!

These free programs are made possible thanks to donors and the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks!

The Friends of Merrick State Park (Merrick Turtles) is a non-profit group of volunteers who support programs and needs of the park. We want visitors from near and far to visit and enjoy our beautiful state park located along the Mississippi River near Fountain City, WI.

This year, the group is funding and donating a handicapped accessible fishing pier to the park! Situated along the Mississippi River, water activities are an integral part of our visitors' experience. The new pier will enable ALL people to come and enjoy this amazing river and fish via an accessible, safe, and secure pier. Construction of the pier is expected near the end of May!

The total cost of the project is approximately $25,000. Through grant funding and donations, we are over half way there. But we could use your help, and every donation is greatly appreciated. Please consider helping us fund this much needed project, an accessible pier for everyone to more fully enjoy our park and river.

Thank you for supporting the Friends of Merrick State Park!
