Today is Denim Day for Sexual Assault Awareness Month!

Denim Day is a powerful reminder to stand with survivors, raise awareness, and speak out against sexual violence. Today, and every day, we are here to support survivors, advocate for healing, and work together to break the cycle of violence.

We believe survivors. We support survivors. We stand with survivors.

We are currently seeking a few volunteers willing to donate their time to help maintain our shelter grounds. We could greatly use assistance with pulling weeds and keeping our landscaping neat and welcoming for those we serve.

If you are interested in volunteering your time, please contact our shelter at 419-435-7300. We would greatly appreciate your support!

Welcome new member, First Step Domestic Violence Services!

First Step Domestic Violence Services was founded in 1980 and is the sole domestic violence shelter serving Seneca County. The organization was created in response to the urgent need to address abuse faced by women and children in intimate partner relationships. In 1990, First Step became the first community domestic violence shelter constructed from the ground up in Ohio and only the fourth in the nation. With more than 45 years of dedicated service, the organization continues to be a vital resource for individuals and families in need.

Over the years, First Step has expanded its services to include emergency shelter, advocacy, counseling, and community education. Today, the organization operates a 24/7 emergency shelter and domestic violence hotline, while extending services beyond Seneca County to Sandusky, Wood, and Wyandot counties. Under the leadership of Executive Director Amy Kinney, the team remains committed to providing trauma-informed care and essential support to those affected by domestic violence.

First Step Domestic Violence Services is dedicated to providing safety, shelter, and services to victims of domestic violence through community resources and collaboration. Their vision is for every victim to receive support and empowerment through education, advocacy, and access to resources.

Sexual assault prevention is a shared responsibility. By learning the warning signs, understanding consent, setting and respecting boundaries, and looking out for one another, we can help create a safer community for everyone.

Take time to educate yourself and others, speak up when something doesn’t feel right, and support survivors by listening and believing them.

If you or someone you know needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help by calling 419-435-7300

Child abuse prevention begins with each of us. By learning the signs, understanding risk factors, and knowing how to respond, we can help create safer environments for children in our community.

Take time to educate yourself, speak up when something doesn’t seem right, and support the children and families around you. Small actions can make a lasting difference.

If you ever need guidance, resources, or support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to help at 419-435-7300
