Update as of 3:40 p.m. on July 29, 2026

After monitoring the splash pad throughout the day and working to troubleshoot the issue, we have implemented a temporary solution. A new start button has been installed and is now the button visitors should press to activate the water features.

The splash pad is currently operating on a continuous cycle while we await the manufacturer's technician, who is scheduled to be on-site tomorrow to perform additional diagnostic testing and determine a permanent solution.

The splash pad experienced some mechanical issues this evening (7/28/26).

After the issue was reported, a City employee responded after hours to troubleshoot the problem. While we were able to investigate, we were not able to find a permanent fix this evening. Our team will be back on site first thing tomorrow morning to continue working on the issue and get the splash pad back up and running as quickly as possible.

We sincerely appreciate everyone who took the time to call the number posted on the park sign to report the problem. Those calls were received and allowed us to respond right away.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue learning the ins and outs of this new system. We also want to give a special thank you to our City employees who took time away from their families this evening to respond and do everything they could to resolve the issue.

We'll provide an update as soon as we have more information.

The City of Fostoria is aware of recent rumors circulating on social media regarding the forced resignation of Fire Chief Jason Root. These claims are false.

Chief Root is not being forced to resign.

As Chief Root approaches retirement eligibility, the City is doing what any responsible organization should do, planning ahead for the future. This includes discussing succession planning and preparing for a smooth leadership transition whenever Chief Root ultimately decides to retire. Our goal is to provide adequate training and, if possible, develop qualified leadership from within the Fire Division.

We appreciate Chief Root's continued service to the City of Fostoria and remain committed to supporting the Fire Division and ensuring uninterrupted service to our community.
