The California Department of Education is facing legal action brought by Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law & StandWithUs over alleged antisemitism in K-12 classrooms.
The complaint raises serious questions about how ideological narratives influence school culture.
This lawsuit highlights why keeping education grounded in learning, not politics, remains essential.

Two Jewish advocacy organizations have sued California and the state Education Department seeking to stop alleged antisemitism on K-12 campuses.

❗️ The Castro Valley Unified School District Board is planning to hire Liberated Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum Coalition (LESMC) to develop an Ethnic Studies Curriculum to comply with the state requirement. LESMC was founded by the same people who drafted first version of the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum (ESMC), portions of which the Californian legislators deemed too controversial, raising “concerns related to bias, bigotry, and discrimination.” Governor Newsom promised Californians that it would “never see the light of day” and state legislators wrote provisions in the Ethnic Studies bill to prevent this material from resurfacing in classroom curriculum.
Concerns with the LESMC:
🚫 The foundation of Liberated Critical Ethnic Studies is said to “challenge the traditional claims of the educational system such as objectivity, meritocracy, color-blindness, race neutrality, and equal opportunity.”
🚫 The LESMC’s foundational principle is that the US has always been and will always be a fundamentally racist nation. This approach is a step backwards from all of the progress and the sacrifices our country has made in breaking down barriers, stereotypes, and discrimination based on race.
🚫 The LESMC’s Teach Palestine Toolkit tells teachers that in order to teach their curriculum, they must “fly under the radar” when administrators or parents are not supportive of this content.
🚫 This curriculum contains militant proselytizing for overthrowing our system of government, uses a single world view of history, and marginalizes key historic leaders, like Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, and Thurgood Marshall, calling them “passive” and “docile.”
🚫 The proposal states that they will conduct teacher training, aid in course and curriculum development and implementation using the LESMC as a foundation.
🚫 By voting in favor of this proposal by the LESMC Coalition, the CVUSD Board would effectively allow this offensive material into our children’s classrooms, doing the opposite of their intention.
✅ Please click here to send your letter to the CVUSD Board and Superintendent and make your voice heard! https://q2lgt76y.paperform.co/ And please forward this to any other community members who also believe that bias and bigotry have no place in our K-12 classrooms.

"Ethnic studies focuses on critiquing the many biases and blind spots of American institutions. Yet... ironically, it is institutionalizing its own set of uncritical narratives and biases."

"Individuals, movements and institutions can and often do have good ideas about some issues and bad ideas about others. Ethnic studies should help students see that complex reality, instead of simply replacing one set of biases with another."

Ethnic studies promoted some of the same destructive ideas my grandmother fought so hard against.

Wall Street Journal's Editorial Board writes, "[California's] Ethnic studies wants to invert traditional American ideas of individual merit, opportunity and success. It imposes its own dominant narrative that interprets all social interactions through the lens of oppression..."

"If America’s traditional 'narratives' are designed to encourage social mobility and prosperity, California’s proposed Marxist narratives are designed to encourage intergroup conflict and perpetual upheaval in existing institutions. That’s explicit in sample assignments, such as drafting a 'manifesto' of demands for the Third World Liberation Front.”

A new curriculum rejects merit and sees oppression everywhere.
