KM9E Repeater

KM9E Repeater Welcome to the KM9E repeater located in Indianapolis, Indiana

02/13/2026

Today, I was monitoring the repeater listening to two “ham radio operators“ conversing about politics. This conversation went beyond normal politics, it was plain and simple Trump Derangement Syndrome.

The line was crossed when the individual stated that “someone needs to put a bullet between his (Trump’s) eyes.“ It was further suggested that a Go Fund Me page should be set up to accomplish this task.

When one threatens to kill a sitting president, let alone anyone, that is a criminal offense. One would think a retired military officer would be aware that this is a very serious crime.

As the repeater trustee, I will not tolerate this illegal activity. This is not protected free speech under the First Amendment. It is criminal activity, and fortunately for you, I did not record it, as I would have forwarded it to the US Secret Service. Take your politics & illegal threats somewhere off the radio.

I have directed the repeater control ops to shut the two repeaters off if they hear a conversation going in this direction. It violates Part 97, is illegal, and shows a total lack of decency.

This is not open for discussion … this is my decision & I will not tolerate conduct of this nature.

On Saturday, 12/14, between the hours of 1000 & 1100, the new 443.25 is going to go live at the new site. Just prior to this, Dale will be using the pink noise generator to align the EQ for the main & remote base transmitters. Once we are done with that, please check in and give us signal reports on both your mobiles & HT's. The new system will have the following equipment:
Kenwood NXR-810K2 Repeater
Arcom RC-210 Repeater Controller
Kenwood TK-7180 remote base linking to 146.76/R
Kenwood TK-8180 Control receiver
NOAA Weather alert system
Boehringer Dual Channel EQ
Henry Commercial Repeater Amp
TX RX systems 28-70-02 duplexer
TX RX systems dual pass cavities
ARR Preamp & splitter
The repeater is on the NE side of Indy, running 100W to the antenna at about 490 -500 feet above ground on the NW side of the tower.
I think it will be a good wide area coverage system which will compliment 442.65/R quite well. Please let us know how it is performing.
Thanks for all your patience & donations towards this very expensive project. The new 442.65 twin system is projected to go live next week. We will keep everyone posted as the timetable is solidified.

I have had many requests to accept donations for the repeater through PAYPAL.

Donations can now be made through PAYPAL ... [email protected]
If made through this method, please choose gift and make notation that it is donation to The Harrison UHF A.R.A. Please include your call sign when making the donation.

I greatly appreciate all donations given. This money will be used ONLY for the two repeaters and their upkeep.

Well, the agreements have been reached & we can now make the announcement public!

As many of you are aware, the trustees of the W9ICE repeater have put many years of hard labor, money & time into the 11 or 12 repeaters they once operated. A decision was made by them to pull all their systems down except 146.97. There have been many rumors as to what the future would bring.

Let's put those all to rest tonight.

1. 442.65 will remain on the air at it's current location. The only change will be that it will now be under the KM9E/R callsign with our RF package. We are going to reprogram the repeater, the PL tone to 77.0 Hz, and retune the duplexers to turn this into the 442.65/R system. No one will have to change anything who currently uses 442.65.

2. On Tuesday, 11/5/2019 I am pulling the 443.25/R down to prepare it for the move on Thursday morning. We have everything ordered to rebuild the 443.25, with hopes that it will be back on the air at its new, nearby location within 30 days. The City of Lawrence has been a wonderful host over the years, however they are leveling the fire station and tower site in the spring of 2020 to rebuild. It will at that point be a single-site system (no voting receivers). I believe the coverage will remain the same or slightly better coverage). We will have the two meter remote base at that site to link to 146.76 for Severe Weather nets in Marion County.

Dale (WB9YCZ), Bob Burns (W9BU), & I have been working on this for over a month. I'm sorry we could not make things public until now, however, the final approvals & agreements were just reached at 7:00PM this evening. Releasing any info prematurely would have been irresponsible. I hope you all understand that this was a very complex & difficult situation to work through by all parties.

Last I would like to thank Bob Burns (W9BU), the Indiana Repeater Council Chairman, for all the hard work he has gone through to put this all into place.

If you are interested in helping to support these two systems & help procure the the new RF package for 443.25, the information to donate is on the KM9E.org website. Checks can be made payable to: Harrison UHF ARA, PO Box 443, Fortville, IN 46040. We appreciate any donations to this massive project!

Thanks go out to Richard Watts (KC9AY), Steve Arvin KB9RPG, & Doug Cochrane (N9EHT) for their help in pulling the 443.25/R for reworking & annual maintenance. The thing is a beast & takes a crew to move, load & unload into the back of the truck. Thanks again, you guys always seem to come through in a pinch. The 443.25/R is now back on the air.

10/29/2019

The 443.25/R will be down for reconfiguration and annual maintenance. I anticipate that it will go back on the air Friday, 11/1/19. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Rick, KM9E
