The Garden of Eat'in

The Garden of Eat'in Feeding the Hungry Food Pantry (serves nearly 550 families each month). The Garden of Eat'in is a 1 acre with 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The Garden of Eat'in was established to provide fresh fruit and vegetables for our local soup kitchen, Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen (KBMSK serves 100 meals per day M-F), and provide excess to our Hancock Co. And we have had over 300 volunteers assist in the garden success since inception in 2011. Our goal for 2014 is a 3 prong approach. First, to have enough volunteers to plant, maintain a

nd harvest the produce enough produce for KBMSK's 100 meals and to have enough excess to fill the their many freezers full to use during winter months. Secondly, to build a community of people with the single purpose of stopping food insecurity (don't know where their next meal is coming from). Thirdly, to have patrons of the soup kitchen and food pantry to be involved in the garden process from early spring to late fall, providing each family with fresh produce for working in the garden. A strong educational component will be included on preparing and preserving the produce.

Thanks to all of you who made the garden successful.

A special thanks to my key volunteers who worked in the garden weekly throughout the season: Dina Burkett, Justin Roland, Rose Reiser, Denise Smith and Chris Wade. Thanks to the Elanco Corporation for sending nearly 200 employees to the garden regularly and TriKappa for sending groups bi-monthly.
