AMEN Free Clinic – Augusta, GA

Better Vision Better Hope was honored to partner with the AMEN Free Clinic in Augusta, Georgia, on February 22.

During this one-day clinic, our team provided comprehensive vision services to 100 patients in the community.

For many individuals served, this was their first eye exam in years — and in some cases, their first pair of prescription glasses.

Access to vision care impacts more than eyesight. It affects employment, education, driving safety, and overall quality of life.

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with community partners who share our commitment to expanding access to care.

🌼 Seasonal Eye Allergies: What You Should Know

If your eyes are itchy, red, watery, or puffy, spring allergies may be the cause. These reactions happen when the eyes respond to allergens like pollen, dust, mold, or pet dander. They’re uncomfortable, but not contagious.

Simple ways to protect your eyes:
• Avoid rubbing your eyes
• Wash your face and hands after being outdoors
• Wear sunglasses to reduce pollen exposure
• Use artificial tears to rinse away allergens
• Keep windows closed on high-pollen days

If symptoms continue or start affecting your vision, it’s best to see an eye care professional for proper treatment.

Taking care of your eyes during allergy season helps keep your vision clear and your days comfortable. 👁️

The iCare tonometer is a handheld device that measures intraocular pressure — the pressure inside the eye. Monitoring this pressure helps detect glaucoma, often called the “silent thief of sight” because it can cause vision loss without early symptoms.

Unlike the traditional air-puff test, the iCare tonometer uses gentle rebound technology to quickly and comfortably measure eye pressure. No numbing drops. No discomfort. Just fast, accurate screening for patients of all ages.

Because the device is portable, our team can bring advanced glaucoma screening directly to mobile and community clinics, helping protect sight wherever care is needed most.

Did you know?
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide — but early detection can help prevent permanent vision loss. 👁️

During Women’s History Month, we honor Dr. Patricia Bath, inventor of the Laserphaco Probe — a breakthrough that transformed cataract surgery and restored sight to thousands worldwide.

Before her innovation, cataract surgery was more invasive with longer recovery times. The Laserphaco Probe uses precise laser energy to safely break up and remove the cloudy lens, allowing doctors to replace it with a clear artificial lens and restore vision.

Her invention improved surgical precision, reduced trauma to the eye, and helped expand access to vision care around the world.

In 2022, Dr. Bath was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, recognizing her groundbreaking contributions to ophthalmology and blindness prevention.

Visionary. Innovator. Pioneer.
