Fort Worth SPARC

Fort Worth SPARC SPARC Strenthens After-School Programs through, Advocacy,Resources and Collaboration. The City of Fort Worth was one of 14 U.S.

cities selected to receive a grant from The Wallace Foundation, an organization seeking to improve education and enrichment for disadvantaged children across the nation. The grant was to be used over a four-year period from 2012 through 2016 to improve the quality and accessibility of out-of-school-time programs. Thanks to this funding and the strong support of Mayor Betsy Price, The City of Fort

Worth Park and Recreation Department and The Fort Worth Sparc Board, we created SPARC, with a mission to Strengthen after-school Programs through Advocacy, Resources and Collaboration. Fort Worth S P A R C is a collaboration between the City of Fort Worth, all 14 local independent school districts, after-school providers and community leaders. Each of these groups work with SPARC, to advocate for exceptional after-school programs across the Greater Fort Worth area, and to serve as a resource for parents and providers.

The reason we love partnering with our Fort Worth Police Department. They help instill empathy in our children. Empathy is the most difficult to instill in a human, especially when they were exposed to multiple physical and emotional challenges. Our Fort Worth Police Department does a great job of meeting kids where they are and sharing with them what police work is truly about in Fort Worth Texas. We look forward to their visit every summer during camp. Thank you Fort Worth Police Department.

Recently, a former FWPD officer reached out to our Fort Worth Cops for Kids to tell us about his neighbor, Emma. Since the age of three, Emma has dreamed of becoming a police officer. The now 7-year-old Emma, recently began chemotherapy for treatment for lymphoblastic leukemia. Knowing she needed support, we arranged for a group of our female officers to surprise her.

Officers Oleksy, Castro, Espinoza, St. Clair, Bel Haddad and our Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) K9 Echo visited Emma in her room, bringing along a police Build-A-Bear for her! Though initially shy, Emma lit up with a big smile when she saw K9 Echo, who rested her head on the hospital bed, comforting Emma and helping her open up.

Her parents expressed that they had not seen her smile like that in weeks, and that the moment left a lasting impact on the entire family.

Your Fort Worth Police Department family is standing behind you, future Officer Emma! Keep fighting hard!

PSA on Sepsis
Heartfelt Condolences to the
family of Kyle Busch.

Every hour sepsis goes untreated, the risk of death increases 7-8%.

Fort Worth SPARC posts only exceptional Public Health Education. We are each saddened by the death of racecar driver Kyle Bush.

His story is unique or is it? Dr. Betsy Grunch has created an exceptional video explaining the complex disease process of sepsis with patience, skill and in an extremely understandable format. Please give it a listen.
