A painting once commissioned to represent American culture abroad has now been removed from a U.S. Embassy.

Kehinde Wiley’s Young Artists After Siamesas 1960, created with Dominican models and rooted in the country’s art history, was taken down from the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo after officials characterized the work as “woke.” The removal comes as Black and Brown cultural representation faces growing scrutiny across federal institutions.
