In the weeks following my brother’s memorial, I worked on a symbol for myself to have tattooed on my wrist. My design has two parts: The semi colon and the waves:
The semi colon symbol to me represents that the current difficulties we face are not
the end. Even though my brother ended his life here, I can still feel his energy. I believe his spirit lives on and I will see him again. The semicolon is just a temporary pause till we see them again. It’s the adjournment between their life here and the life after. The high and low waves represent the ups and downs of life. Life can flip you over and over; sometimes never truly knowing which way is up or down. Though the storms of life can create waves we sometimes cannot see over, underneath is the calm collected ocean. Water for me is also healing and purifying. I love the tides of the ocean washing over my feet in the sand, then taking all my troubles back out to sea. This is a reminder to myself to “go with the flow” or let go of worry over situations I cannot control. The future is unpredictable in nature, but we are all in this together. I hope by wearing my design, it will serve as a reminder to hold on; have HOPE! Hold On Pain Ends
