What’s in an Introduction? More Than Just a Name!
If you’ve ever been asked to introduce a speaker and thought, “Wait… what do I say?”—you’re not alone!
In Toastmasters, introductions are part of our program for a reason. They set the stage, spark interest, and give the audience a reason to care about what’s coming next.
A good introduction should:
1. Capture attention – Start with something relevant or intriguing about the topic or speaker.
2. Contextualize the speech – Briefly mention the project, the goal, or the assignment.
3. Celebrate the speaker – Include a few personal or professional tidbits to build anticipation.
4. End strong – Finish with their name last, and say it clearly. That’s their moment!
Quick formula:
Hook + Speech Purpose + Speaker Bio + Confident Close = Great Introduction!
Email your intro to the Toastmaster of the day.
Let’s make every speaker feel like the headliner they are.
Otherwise known as: who are you? What will you be presenting, and why should we listen to you?
