Members of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter were proud to attend the 135th Annual Convention of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in Fort Worth. From celebrating our Texas heritage and traditions to honoring outstanding accomplishments across the state, it was a wonderful few days of fellowship, learning and service.

Congratulations to our chapter on receiving a 10% Growth Award and to all who helped make this year’s “Cowgirls in Cowtown” convention a success. 🤠⭐️❤️

Today’s meeting of the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas was a wonderful afternoon of fellowship, history and great food during our annual indoor picnic luncheon.

We were honored to welcome Matt Solomon, Texarkana Preservation Officer, as our guest speaker. Matt shared a fascinating presentation about Northeast Texas historical events and markers and some historical connections between Waco and Texarkana. His passion for preservation and Texas history made for an engaging and informative program that our members greatly enjoyed.

Founded in 1900, the Sterling C. Robertson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas carries forward more than 125 years of dedication to preserving the rich history of Texas. Based in Waco, the chapter is named in honor of Sterling C. Robertson, a prominent empresario and patriot instrumental in the settlement of Robertson’s Colony, which included areas near present-day Waco. Today, the chapter continues its mission of fostering pride in and understanding of Texas history.

Today we observe Texas Statehood Day, commemorating the day Texas was admitted as the 28th state of the United States and honoring our unique history as a former independent nation.

This day offers an opportunity to reflect on the courage, vision and perseverance of those who shaped the Republic of Texas. Their legacy continues through the preservation of historic sites, education efforts and the stories we are entrusted to protect.

In honor of this day, we encourage Texans to proudly fly the Texas flag in recognition of our shared heritage and enduring pride in our great state.

What a wonderful meeting we had last week. We enjoyed an engaging portrayal of Sarah Ayers Park, welcomed the swearing-in of six new members and shared meaningful fellowship with so many dedicated Daughters. We also appreciated the visit from Mary Beth Brunson, District 5 representative.

Thank you to everyone who attended and special thanks to Denise Bennett for her outstanding portrayal.

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting on March 5.
