This morning was spent with Fort Worth ISD education leaders and other interested organizations.

Why, you ask?

To discover the possibilities of partnering with the ISD as an education partner for students in K-8 over the summer and once a week during the school year.

Econautics is about educating young people in urban agriculture, making it fun, while practical. John, Tricia (pictured) and Dean were able to share this philosophy and explore opportunities with principals and educators today. Now we see what we can do to further the potential!

Our 2026 goals for fundraising are set. Operational and improvements, and most important of all, our purchase of the first Living Laboratory site in Woodhaven (east Fort Worth, TX).

If you would like to know more about these goals and becoming a partner with Econautics, reach out to Dean Waterman, our Executive Director, for a one-on-one conversation. We welcome individuals, families and corporations that would like to join us in making a difference now and into the future.

University of Houston students from the School of Architecture dove in this afternoon! They are taking many photos and measuring the current structures on-site. This gives them the foundation (pun intended) to design exteriors that are connected to the vision for our Living Labratory.

It takes vision to see what can be, these students have it!

We are underway! Econautics is converting portions of the former Woodhaven Golf Course into a regenerative urban agriculture site to increase quality food access and provide experiential learning opportunities for the youth in Fort Worth. We started by shallow tilling the former 17th hole to break up the bermuda grass roots. We let them dry out for a week before seeding in order to prevent a nitrogen sink. Once primed, we then spread radish, crimson clover, vetch, and rye grain. We timed this to get seeds down before the winter cold, and to yield a cover crop this spring. These efforts will help improve the soil conditions in preparation for food crops which we plan to sow next spring. Thank you to the volunteers and donors who made this possible!

Econautics is proud to welcome an excellent new leader to our Board of Directors: Tricia Demaree, Special Education Coordinator for Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. Tricia has nearly three decades of experience in education, including over 12 years of service in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD. Her passion for special education was sparked at the age of twelve when her sister was born with Down syndrome, setting her on a lifelong path of advocacy and support for students with diverse needs. Her career began in 1997 teaching in a self-contained classroom for students with intellectual disabilities. Over the years, she has served in a variety of roles, including behavior specialist, and now leads district-wide efforts to support students with emotional disabilities, autism, and intensive behavioral needs. She is especially known for her expertise in Conscious Discipline, which she has been teaching to educators for over a decade. Her work empowers teachers to see behavior as communication and respond with empathy and skill-building. As a coordinator, Tricia develops and monitors behavior intervention plans, facilitates Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, and collaborates with teachers, counselors, and administrators to foster inclusive and emotionally safe learning environments. She plays a key role in the implementation and success of CARE Rooms across the district—spaces grounded in compassion, emotional regulation, and the belief that every behavior is a call for help. Outside of work, Tricia finds joy in gardening and volunteering at her church. She’s been married for 28 years and is the proud mother of two HEB-ISD graduates. Whether growing vegetables in her backyard or nurturing student growth in the classroom, Tricia brings a deep commitment to growth, learning, and transformation in all that she does. Welcome to the team, Tricia Demaree! Econautics will lean on you to improve the accessibility and impact of our agronomy curriculum and to guide our youth-oriented programs.
