Happy 119th Founders’ Day to the ‘Men of Distinction’ – the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. On this day, our Seven Jewels, Brothers George Biddle Kelly, Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, Vertner Woodson Tandy, Eugune Kinckle Jones and others made the official decision to move from a ‘Literary Society’ to become the first and leading intercollegiate fraternity founded by African American men dedicated to “Manly Deeds, Scholarship & Love for All Mankind.” And while we are grateful to the contributions of those who initially set us on our path to initially organize and ultimately become a Fraternity, but did not continue, we also respect their unselfish decision to not remain or impede our destiny. Today, as men of Alpha, we rededicate ourselves to the vision of our Seven Jewels and gladly accept our burden to provide courageous and uncompromising leadership for the communities we serve, especially in these tumultuous times.
