Adera’s primary objective is to strengthen the family unit in the nation of Ethiopia. Poverty, disease, poor education, high unemployment and a variety of other socio-economic factors are destroying the family unit in Ethiopia. Our desire is to facilitate programs to meet basic needs and to promote self-sustainability among the neediest individuals. One key area of emphasis is assisting mothers wi

th young children. By targeting this extremely vulnerable segment of the Ethiopian population, we hope to provide loving parents with the training and business opportunities needed to foster long-term success. Our feeding and preschool programs provide the children in these families with the assistance they need not only to survive, but thrive even in difficult circumstances. Adera works closely with government entities and village councils in order to ensure that our work is locally-supported and meets all national and regional regulatory standards.

Every Adera mother comes to us carrying broken dreams and fading hope. Many feel like Adera is their last chance. But soon they discover that Adera is actually an open door to community, support, and a new future.
Today was our monthly teff and oil distribution, and the Community Center was filled with encouragement, laughter, and hope. It is such a joy to watch your love and support help restore confidence and create lasting change—one family at a time.

Security Brings Joy 💛
At Adera, a child in our daycare receives so much more than meals.
Each child receives:
✨ Two nutritious meals every day
✨ Preschool education and early learning
✨ Vitamins and healthcare support
✨ A safe place filled with love and encouragement
But the impact doesn't stop with the child.
A mother gains the confidence of knowing her child is safe, cared for, and thriving. That peace of mind allows her to pursue work, build skills, earn income, and create greater economic security for her family.
When a mother no longer has to choose between caring for her child and providing for her family, hope grows.

Years ago, I traveled to Addis Ababa with Adera, and the faces are still with me.
I remember teaching Bible stories to children, serving lunch, worshiping alongside Ethiopian believers, and sharing my faith story with mothers whose hearts looked so much like my own.

I especially remember Edome—a fierce little girl who ran faster than everyone, raised her hand first in class, and greeted each day with courage and joy.

What changed me most was watching children act out the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000. They didn't speak English, but they knew the joy and hope found in Jesus.

I still pray for Edome. I still pray for the mothers and children. And I still carry the lessons they taught me about faith, joy, and God's love.

People ask, "Why Addis? Why Adera?"

Because Jesus.

We are not here to replace parents — we are here to equip, encourage, and walk alongside them. Asefu arrived at Adera carrying unimaginable pain, raising her daughter alone after surviving trauma, loss, and war in Ethiopia.
Today, she is rebuilding her life with hope. She works as an assistant teacher, is completing caregiving training, and has found faith, community, and purpose through Adera.
Her daughter Mariya now comes home singing songs, sharing Bible stories, and reminding her mom that God sees her and loves her. ❤️
Stories like Asefu’s are why Adera exists — to bring hope, healing, education, and opportunity to vulnerable families in Ethiopia.
