Fourteen years ago today, Kenney Beard Sr. ended his own life. To say those words and put them out into the world carries a whole host of emotions - grief, sadness, anger, and so many others that cannot easily be named.
Kenney was not just a man. He was a husband, a father, and, to his many grandchildren, Pawpaw. To the immediate family members who became survivors of su***de following his death, we knew we had to do something to honor his legacy and remember the man he was. Anyone who knew Kenney knew that he had a profound love of cars. That love inspired the idea of a car show, which was first hosted in 2012 following his death by his longtime car club, DFWLX. From there, our family knew we had found the perfect way to remember him. In the years that followed, we began hosting the show ourselves, with proceeds benefiting the Tarrant County L.O.S.S. Team - an organization dedicated to providing resources and support to survivors of su***de in our community.
In 2018, we decided to take the next step in furthering our goals of remembrance, awareness, and prevention. As a result, the Kenney Beard Memorial Fund was founded. The Kenney Beard Memorial Fund exists to honor the life and legacy of Kenney Beard Sr. by transforming loss into hope. Through community engagement and fundraising initiatives such as the Kenney Beard Memorial Car Show, we are committed to raising awareness about su***de prevention, reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, and supporting those affected by su***de. Money raised through the event not only helps us continue hosting the car show but also allows us to provide a monetary donation to the Tarrant County L.O.S.S. Team, supporting its work to provide resources, outreach, education, and compassionate support to those impacted by su***de throughout our community. Together, we believe that every conversation matters, every life has value, and every act of compassion has the power to save a life.
As we take today to remember Kenney and grieve the life that was lost 14 years ago, we are also preparing to gather tomorrow to celebrate the life he lived. The 2026 Kenney Beard Memorial Car Show is tomorrow from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the DFW Car & Toy Museum, 2550 McMillan Parkway, Fort Worth, Texas 76137. In addition to the incredible vehicles on display, we will have raffles, a silent auction, and a special space dedicated to remembering Kenney’s life and legacy. We hope you will join us as we come together not only to remember Kenney, but also to raise awareness, support survivors, and continue an important conversation about su***de awareness and prevention.
