Good Morning Everyone,

It's been a while since my last post, and a very long while since our last event in 2014, thats my fault. I do apologize that we have been dormant for a while, quite a few things have occurred in the past that has caused me to put this group on the back burner for a bit and focus in another area of need.

In addition to the Pandemic, it’s been a rough journey but, I’m ready to put that behind and focus back on what this group was created for.

I hope everyone had an AMAZING Marine Corps Birthday this year... Rahh! and I am wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

This group was created in 2013 as an extension of the North Texas Area Marines/Dallas Area Marines (DAMS) to help promote bringing Marines throughout the State of Texas together and to allow everyone an avenue to connect and help others and we had our first annual camp-out in 2014.

With this said, I have been doing some pondering and would like to try again to restart our Annual Camp-Out and BBQ. We had a small, but GREAT event in 2014, but it would be great to see it come together again in 2022.

I need your help to see if there is an interest with the members of this page. We would need some time to plan it, so think ahead to next year.

The event will be simpler, with the focus on getting Marines together to have a great time at the lake, do some camping, fishing and eat some BBQ.

If you would like to see the Camping & BBQ event to make a comeback, please let me know if you are interested by commenting below. If there is a good interest, I will begin to put together an event team, get with the other Marine and veteran related groups on FB, and get some locations picked out for you guys to vote on.

Thank you everyone! Look forward to hearing from each of you.

Hello everyone!

Well, it has been a while but I am working on a 2018 event and looking for suggestions. At the moment, I am looking at Lofer's Bend Park again on Lake Whitney as a it is a more central state location to get this started off again. So, let me what you think on 2018 weekend dates and I will work out a plan to get this thing kicked off! Going to just do a BBQ and Camping-Out this year until we can get a lot more people together to host another Fishing Tournament. Post here your ideas and comments. I will be working on getting the Webpage updated as well. I know its a bit behind and I apologize😐.

2016 Event in Process! - New Features and Updates Coming to our website!

We are currently working on a 2016 Camping & BBQ Event possibly in late July or early August. We are looking at 2 locations, Lake Tawakoni Campgrounds and Potters Creek Park at Canyon Lake. Please come back soon for more details.

Also, we are currently working on a few new sections of our website to continue to build our mission. We will be adding a new section of our site that will list several honored Texas Marines starting with Texas Medal of Honor winners. As research moves forward, we will continue to add new sections of different award winners and war specific Texas Marines. Its a work in progress and will take time to complete however, we feel that once it is complete, it will be a great centralized area that Marines can come to and research.

More to come. If you have any suggestions of what you would like to see on this site, please let us know!

We regret to bring some somewhat bad news. We received a call from Army Corps of Engineers who maintains Lofers Bed park. As you may know, the rains last month filled most of the North Texas up causing flooding in most of the lake areas. Due to this, they have closed the park till after August to make repairs. I made a trip out to the park today. The water level is up over the lower road and those campsites are covered in water up to the top of the awnings. So, what does this mean? We are in despite need of finding a new location ASAP. Our back-up site on Canyon Lake west of New Braunsfields is a possibility however, I will need to call down and talk with them and I will try to get that done today. If that lake is in good shape, I will go down to do a site survey in 2 weeks during the Marine Corps League Department of Texas Convention in San Antonio. Suggestions are welcome to secure a site for our BBQ. Please don't hesitate to let us know your input. Location must be able to accommodate 75 people minimal and preferably have RV hook-Ups. I will keep you all posted as quickly as possible on the developments.

Good Morning Everyone. Hope everyone is having a great year so far. A LOT of people have been asking, and I know its been a while since we have updated it but.... The 2nd Annual Camp-out and BBQ even has been finalized! It has been scheduled for the 1st weekend in August. (July 30th - Aug 2nd). So mark your calenders! We had a hard time scheduling it with different things occurring and all with the park itself. This years event will be on the WEST park this time, the opposite side park from last year. Its the side that has the screened in shelters on it. We will be heading out to do a site survey this week (Friday) so we will get some pictures together. Registration is on the website like last year, difference is it is at the bottom of the calender page. Fees are $5.00 cheaper this year. Will will post more on the event here soon, so stay tuned! Visit our website at www.texasareamarines.org for additional info and registration!

The Event

Our 2014 event held at Lofer's Bend Park on Lake Whitney was a HUGE success. Thank you for all that attended and made this first inaugural event possible. We had a total of 34 that attended the event (not all are pictured above). Special thanks to Matthew Hahr and Eric Schwartz for graciously doing all of the cooking for us and bringing out the huge smoker.

Event Dates Were:

August 14th - 17th, 2014

Event Location Was At:

Lofer's Bend Park East - Army Corps of Engineers Park
224 Lofer's Bend Park Road
East Whitney, TX 76692

Next Event

We are currently in the pre-planning phase of our next event in 2015. As we are limited in the number of large lakes in Texas to hold a fishing tournament event, picking a new good location for next year is very difficult. It is looking like for the second annual event, we are planning to hold it at the same location as the 2014 Annual Event as we try to help increase the overall attendee numbers and move to our ultimate goals. We are going to be looking at proposed date frames so we can make it more easier for people to attend and make the fishing a lot more better. We will be planning to have the first 2015 annual event meeting sometime in October 2014 to discuss the post 2014 annual event as well as the plans for the 2015 annual event. For 2016, we are planning on looking at a new location at Lake Sam Rayburn near Jasper, Texas. Please stay tuned to our website as well as Like Us on Facebook for continuous updates on our future plans!

Lastly, lots have asked us out T-Shirts for Texas Area Marines. We do have a final design and we are working on getting them available for sale in our new online store coming soon. The hold-up has been the costs for the shirts and what we are having to do is work on getting some donated monies to make the first order to get stock for the store. Also, the color design shirt is a little expensive in my eyes so we are trying to figure out how to lower that cost. Future we are looking at Trailer hitches, license plate frames, coffee mugs and other items to sell in the online store so we can help generate funds to lower the costs to put on the event and add more stuff. The online store is planned to come available sometime before the end of October so stay tuned!

I have to say those of you that missed this event, you missed a great time. OE Ermis, you did an outstanding thing planning this event. You went above and beyond and I will proudly stand by you as a true brother. For those that do not know he pretty much single handedly planned and executed this awesome even.
Location was perfect, food was perfect company was even better. For those of you that came thank you for supporting this event and showing this Marine that his hard work did not go unnoticed.
For those that missed it there should not be any excuse to miss the next event, plan on showing some support to this Marine for his efforts to do nothing but show the true spirit of family and Corps.
Semper FI Sgt. Ermis
