Dear Young Marvels,
Some of you have asked what could be done to help Save Our Symphony. Here are three (3) easy suggestions that having support from the younger generation would be very helpful:

(1) VOTE FOR THE SOSFW CHRISTMAS TREE!

HOW? Today thru Dec 12 a NEW code = just text WSGROVE7 to 444222 to cast your vote! You can also go by and see the beautiful, musical tree where we are reminded that a symphony is not a what but a WHO. On display thru Dec 20 at The Grove @ Waterside (Bryant Irvin & Arborlawn, FW 76109 – behind the new Whole Foods & Taco Diner patio). The tree that gets the most text votes wins a charitable donation!

(2) JOIN US FOR OUR GIVINGRIDE AT CYCLEBAR! (We need younger folk too who can keep up in a cycle ride!!)

Come ride a stationary bike with us! For your $25 donation, you will ride with fellow SOSFW supporters in a 50 minute spinning class with full classical music soundtrack. We'll also have a reception after the ride to meet some of the musicians!

Saturday, Dec. 17th, 2pm
Cyclebar @ Waterside
5924 Convair Dr
Fort Worth, TX

SIGN UP at: http://tinyurl.com/SOSFWGivingRide

(3) WRITE An EMAIL TO THE SOSFW SANTA!

Tell him you support symphonic music in Fort Worth, or the musicians, or both! Tell him why you think it’s important that we try and Save Our Symphony. We will gather all your letters to help us trumpet the cause. The musicians would be very impacted by letters from students!

Send your letters to: [email protected]

Calling all Young Marvels - past & present! You all know that our fantastic Young Marvels "Let's Go to the FW Symphony" has been shut down with management's cancellation of concerts this year. It's quite sad that we attended over a dozen concerts together, adding more than 300 teenagers to the audience, to now see a dark concert hall.

We also got the great privilege of spending quality time with musicians from Fort Worth like Allan Steele (cello) and Kathryn Perry (violin) at our "eat & learn" dinners. These musicians are now unemployed and need our help!

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Text the word GROVE7 to 444222 TODAY! That will place a vote for the Save Our Symphony Christmas Tree currently on display at Waterside Development behind the new Whole Foods. The tree receiving the most votes will win money for the charity, and Save Our Symphony is working to get the symphony playing again!

WHY YOUNG MARVELS?
1) These musicians have given something to you....now it's time to give back to them.
2) TWO of our own Young Marvels were INSTRUMENTAL in making this tree happen:
(a) Benjamin Hunter created this 3D tree topper for SOSFW!
(b) Atlee Daniel created every musician ORNAMENT on the tree (with their faces, names & instrument).

The message of the tree is this: The Symphony is not a what, but a WHO......so vote today for these people (GROVE7 to 444222)!

Want to help out in the future? You and your parents can sign up at https://www.sosfw.org to discover ways to volunteer, donate, support the efforts to Save Our Symphony!

The rains held off so for the 1st ever outdoor Instrument Petting Zoo for FW Symphony, Young Marvels got the chance to show people of all ages how to make sounds from strings, brass, woodwind & percussion instruments. Who knows, maybe there is a future Yo Yo Ma or James Ehnes that got their start right there on the downtown FW plaza?

FWSO also sends a special thank you to all the Young Marvels who were a part of this fun annual event!

04/07/2016

Our Final 4 Young Marvels events are coming up soon....hope to see you at many of these!

#1 = SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - Saturday, April 16 from 3 - 6:30pm, Bass Hall
The FWSymphony hosts their annual Main Street Arts Festival "Instrument Petting Zoo" downtown outside of Bass Hall. We are in need of student musicians who can help kids learn about/play instruments. All Young Marvels are welcome, and FWSO particularly needs more woodwind and brass players....so if you can help out, please let me know by return email and I'll provide you full details. (I'm happy to also sign any school service hours forms for your participation): [email protected]

#2 = Dallas Opera, presenting "Showboat" at AT&T Stadium - Sat., April 23 from 6-10pm
This fun event (watching a live performance of "Showboat" on the HUGE screen of AT&T Stadium) is a unique and not-to-be-missed opportunity. It's FREE (just bring some $ for any drinks/food you want to purchase). I have limited tickets, so let me know by return email if you want to come and I'll reserve yours for you/give you further details. [email protected]

#3 = Closed rehearsal of FWSO with violin superstar, Midori - Friday, May 13 from 10a-noon @ Bass Hall
If you happen to be out of school or do homeschool, this is a rare chance to see a violin legend rehearse. I only have a few free tickets to this special event, so please let me know if you can go and I'll save you one!

#4 = Final FWSO Concert of the year - Midori plays Tchaikovsky (+ Copeland's Rodeo) -- Saturday, May 14 @ Bass Hall. We will meet in the Will Call lobby starting at 6:30p to get our seats before grabbing a quick snack prior to the concert. No need to RSVP with me, but just show up by 6:30 on May 14. (We will attempt to get a photo with Midori at intermission)

So how do you get to Carnegie Hall? Of course with practice, practice, practice....but it also helps to be part of a performing orchestra! Several of our Young Marvels have recently gotten the chance to perform at the USA's most famous concert hall.
(1) Atlee Daniel - viola - playing in the Honors Performance Series in February, and getting the added benefit of a solo acknowledgement, and (2) David Rein & Nicholas Epperson (along with a few non-pictured YO members) performing with their Arlington Martin High School Orchestra in March.

YoungMarvels recently had a chance to enjoy a pancake brunch with Brian & Kathryn Perry who shared about their lives as professional musicians. Some inspiring comments were made to our YoungMarvels as the Perry's encouraged the students to both take music seriously while also having fun with it.

Thanks Brian & Kathryn -- lots of good advice to mull over!
