It’s moving day! Moving TART’s office out of the Fort Worth Community Arts Center and into storage for the time being. Bittersweet moment for us, but we have seven years of memories here at our theatre’s home.

Big thanks to Marla Owen, Tori, Tim, Nolan, Joe, Jason, and the entire FWCAC team for all your support these past seven years. We will miss you.

After 7 seasons, TART is ceasing operations on all mainstage productions. Due to the loss of funding, primary staff changes, and the recent Covid-19 pandemic, it has been the "perfect storm" for our organization that we are unable to recover from at this time. However, our Board of Directors is committed to continue their established collaborations in the Fort Worth Fringe festival and other local art events. Thank you to everyone for their support during the last 7 seasons!

Dear TART patrons, volunteers, and subscribers:

The current situation regarding COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus, has placed many arts organizations across the nation in dire circumstances. Many cities and counties are currently under “shelter in place” restrictions, with gatherings of more than a few people prohibited in an effort to stem the spread of this disease.

TART’s home, the Ft. Worth Community Arts Center, is among those organizations that are currently closed as part of the ongoing efforts to curb the Coronavirus, and the date of its possible reopening cannot be predicted at this point with any degree of certainty. Accordingly, and after much careful consideration, the TART Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming production of Andrew Lippa’s “Wild Party,” which was scheduled to open on May 15th. While we regret the necessity of this decision, the health, safety, and well-being of our actors, musicians, volunteers, patrons, and audience members must take precedence. We simply do not believe we can mount this production in the time available without an unacceptable amount of risk to all concerned.

Season ticket holders will receive a refund check in the mail for this cancelled production within the next 2-3 weeks. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us via email at [email protected], as our box office will be closed until the shelter in place restrictions are lifted.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. We appreciate your support of the Tarrant Actors Regional Theatre.

For those patrons with tickets to "Hay Fever" for tonight's 8 p.m. performance (Sat. Jan. 25) or Sunday's 2 p.m. matinee (Jan. 26), please be aware that traffic associated with the Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is very heavy, and getting to the theatre will take quite a bit longer than usual. Please plan to leave earlier than normal and to expect traffic congestion on the streets surrounding the Ft. Worth Community Arts Center and the Will Rogers Center (including Montgomery Street, Lancaster Street, Camp Bowie Blvd., and University Blvd.)

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Hay Fever
By Noel Coward
Tarrant Actors Regional Theatre

Wealthy eccentric family frightens norms.
I’m sure there’s a more detailed synopsis out there, but I promise that’s pretty accurate.

I’m going to start with the first impression. Ellen Mizener’s set was lovely. The two story home gave the feeling of opulence without being over cluttered. The overall look was well thought out, however there were a couple things that could use some attention. The particle board used for support under the couch cushions caught my eye more than once. Also, the fold lines in the curtains. It’s such a small thing that several theatres are guilty of, but it’s noticeable when the set dressings are not ironed.

The show itself was fun. Here you have this obviously weird family, you have no idea how weird till act two, realizing that they have each invited a guest to what was supposed to be a quiet weekend in which to charm their individual guests. Set in 1920’s England, there is a charm and elegance presented by each actor even in the most awkward of situations. The cast worked well together and the “family” had a delightfully odd chemistry.

I must say the two stand out performances were by Jorge Martin Lara (Sandy Tyrell) and Laura Lester (Jackie Coryton). Lara comes in as this suave athletic pl***oy, who intends on making his move on the famous matriarch only to find her still married and her two grown children home for the weekend, not to mention possibly engaged by the end. Lara’s face as he begins to realize just how untethered this family has become is priceless. Lester portrays the guest of the patriarch and while I didn’t catch why she was invited, I’m not sure she knew why either. Her shy and awkward nature is a nice break from all the other large personalities, but it’s the little displays of anxiety that steal the scene.

In the end I enjoyed this production. Opening weekend gitters caused the pace to drop at times, but once all the players were set, the show becomes very energy driven. Noel Coward is known for his nutty characters and this cast does not disappoint.
