Every milk donation has a story, and we are honored to share Gayatri’s.

Gayatri doesn’t take breastmilk for granted. She struggled to produce enough for her first child. Then, with her second baby, Chinmayi, she ended up with an oversupply and decided to become a milk donor.

She says, “Donating my milk feels like sending a lifeline to babies in need.”

Gayatri also shared heartfelt gratitude for her family who have supported her along the way, her mom, husband, and daughter, who help make her donation journey possible while caring for baby Chinmayi.

Thank you, Gayatri, for your incredible generosity and for turning your breastfeeding journey into hope for others.

We have a FULL schedule for June with many options for free breastfeeding support! We've added a special summer session to our options- an additional weekly session will be held on Wednesdays at the milk bank. Beat the heat and get all your breastfeeding questions answered!

Baby Cafe is hosted by a certified lactation consultant. Your support person and other children are welcome - we hope to see you there!

As we wrap up NEC Awareness Month this week, we would like to give a shout out to the state of Texas!

Last year, the 89th Texas Legislature designated May as Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) and Breastfeeding Awareness Month. Texas joins California, Colorado, Georgia, Louisianna, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah and New Jersey in recognizing NEC to raise awareness.

NEC remains a formidable challenge in neonatal care, but the power of human milk offers hope. As more hospitals, policymakers and parents recognize its lifesaving potential, more babies will have a chance at the best possible start.

This summer we're adding another Baby Cafe session each week at our Mothers' Milk Bank of North Texas location in Fort Worth! Beat the heat and join us for free breastfeeding support during our SUMMER SESSIONS on Wednesdays, in addition to our regular Tuesday and Friday sessions.

Sessions at this location are drop-in (no RSVP required) and held:
-Tuesday: 10am - 12pm
-Wednesday: 12pm - 2pm
-Friday: 12pm - 2pm

This is Kendra and her daughter, Kassie, in front of our courier van, ready to send donor milk to the milk bank.

They have come a long way since Kassie was in the NICU where she received donor milk until Kendra could provide her own breastmilk. Now, Kendra is paying it forward by donating her extra milk to help other families.

Today, we celebrate World Human Milk Donation Day 2026, a day dedicated to the incredible generosity of milk donors who are making a life-saving difference for babies around the world.

Every ounce donated is more than nourishment. It’s protection, healing, and hope for the most fragile infants, especially those in the NICU. For many families, donor milk is a bridge during a critical time, helping babies grow stronger while parents work toward their own breastfeeding goals.

Today is NEC Awareness Day.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a complex intestinal disease, without a single cause. It primarily affects premature and medically fragile infants.

• NEC is a leading cause of death for premature infants.
• Thousands of babies die from NEC globally every year.
• While some babies survive NEC, many face lifelong neurological and nutritional complications.

Sophia was born at 24 weeks weighing only 1.8 pounds. As a micro preemie, she was extremely fragile and immediately required specialized care in the NICU. She needed support for vital functions such as breathing, feeding and temperature regulation and faced significant challenges along the way.

Like many premature and medically vulnerable infants, Sophia developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a life-threatening condition that causes severe inflammation of the intestines.

Sophia’s case required surgery when a bacterial infection caused intestinal necrosis (tissue death). Her resulting short bowel syndrome made formula hard to digest. She started receiving donor milk in the hospital. Her mother, Samantha says, “I was not aware that milk banks existed. I was very thankful.”

Incredibly, Sophia survived.

Her story underscores the urgent need to raise awareness about NEC. Together, through research, education, and advocacy, we can work toward a future where NEC no longer threatens the lives of babies or the well-being of their families.
