Project Transformation Greater Tarrant A place for those who are interested in the mission of Project Transformation to connect to our ministry.

We are a chapter of Project Transformation located in the Horizon Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. The mission of Project Transformation is to engage young adults in purposeful leadership and ministry, support children and their families in under-resourced neighborhoods, and connect churches to these communities. The easiest way to understand how we live out our mission is to remember the 3 C's: College-aged Young Adults, Children, and Churches. College-aged Young Adults: Provide meaningful ways for young adults to explore ministry opportunities and develop as young adult leaders for the church and the world. Children: Meet the academic, physical, and spiritual needs of children in under-resourced neighborhoods. Churches: Help churches form new connections within the community.

Have you ever wondered why our camps run Mondays through Fridays?

There is no camp on Friday so that we devote a day each week to providing vocational exploration opportunities for our young adult interns. For one of our Friday Experiences this summer, interns had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Joe Harrington, Superintendent of Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. The interns were able to ask questions about careers in educations and about the state of education in the State of Texas.

TRANSFORMATION OCCURS THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS

Last summer Reading Volunteer, Sherri, was paired with kindergartener, Rodney, the first week of camp. For the rest of the summer, Rodney refused to be paired with any other Reading Volunteer. And so, Sherri and Rodney spent 8 weeks together, learning the alphabet and practicing sight words. But, something more important happened... they developed a bond...they became friends.

As summer camp approached this year, Sherri would ask if Rodney has registered yet.

Well, he did. On the first day of camp, when Rodney walked into the Reading Room and saw Sherri, he squealed, ran over to Sherri, and sat down next to her.

Here's the plot twist: during the 7th week of camp, Rodney informed Sherri that he could read with other Reading Volunteers now - so that she could help other children.

THE 5 B's

Be Respectful. Be a Learner. Be a Listener. Be a Leader. Be a Friend!

If you visit one of our camp sites, you will see "The 5 B's" posters in every room. The posters act as a reminder to children, young adults, staff, and volunteers, alike, of the covenant we have made with each other.

When asked on exit surveys to share the one thing participants learned during their summer at PT Greater Tarrant, the post common answer is "the 5 B's" or to name one, or more or all, of the 5 B's. We were particularly impressed with Liam's words of wisdom.
