The Suffering VA Veterans

The Suffering VA Veterans To honor those Veterans who are not receiving proper health care in a timely manner.

Is there anyone with medical training that would listen to an audio file and tell me in laymen’s terms what the nurse said? The VA is refusing to do anything to fix my L4L5 disc bulge. I don’t know what symptoms they are treating but it’s not the ones causing my problem and they have been treating it for 2.5 years. I am about to reply to Senator Cruz and Senator Cornyn and I need to address a letter from the VA where they spent 20 minutes explaining the situation. I am reminded of WC Fields who said “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t.”

If they were auto mechanics they would have been fired a long time ago.

I think doctors should be paid based on results just like all other professions, with a few exceptions. Thanks

On April 10th I had another appointment with my P*P (Primary care physician) at the Ft. Worth VA. I was referred to Neurosurgery in Dallas again in hopes that I could receive community care. Community care seems to be my only hope of fixing my L4L5 disc bulge because the VA is not interesting in fixing anything. The Dallas VA is only interested in experimenting on me which they have done for over two years now. The Dallas VA’s inaction has caused other secondary issues causing me to further deteriorate.

Since I had heard nothing from Neurosurgery I decided to call. This is basically what they said; since I refused to be experimented on any further the Dallas VA cancelled my appointment. My VA advocate suggested I reschedule the appointment except with the doctor who does the injections and explain my situation.

Last week while riding on the shuttle to my Dallas VA Neurosurgery appointment I met a guy who has the same story as mine when it comes to the VA’s non-treatment of medical issues. This person is a Veteran, lives at a local ministry home and help’s other ministry organizations.

He has a bone spur that is pressing on his Achilles tendon and instead of removing the bone spur the VA just want to work on his tendon. The VA does not want to address the problem only treat the symptoms. He has been dealing with this for three years. Three years of pain when there is a solution.

I wanted to catch you up on my 3rd appointment with the Neurosurgery department at the Dallas VA last week (02/28/24 actual date). This is a harsh statement but it is the first thing that comes to mind after my visit with the VA Neurosurgery department. I thought the Hippocratic Oath meant something but the VA has done nothing to help and I am in worst condition now then even before the L4 L5 disc bulge became a real problem.

A doctor stepped in and wanted to show me the MRI which I have seen before. He said “there is a little gap between the bulge and the nerve”. I said of course there is, I was in a prone and completely straight position when the MRI was done. This is a position where you would expect to have the greatest gap. The problem is when I bend over or raise a leg to put on my socks since I can’t sit to do that among many other things.

The VA even mentioned if I had private insurance. If I had private insurance the procedure I need would have already been done and I would have my life back by now. Two years and counting that the VA has allowed me to suffer and I am not the only one. I will follow up concerning a man I met last week who the VA is treating the same or should I say not treating.

After church on Sunday 02/18/24 I was changing socks when it happened. The only way to do this (change socks) without the L4 L5 disc bulge hitting the nerve is to either sit down and slowly bring my foot up until I can reach my foot, or stand, slowly raise my leg to rest on a stack of tubs about 28” high and then slowly remove or put on the sock. I was attempting to put on the sock when it happened. The pain level immediately jumps to a 10 and you do everything you can to stay standing.

My daily routine is nothing like what it once was. It hasn’t been the same for two years now for fear of this happening.

Well I had another visit to the VA on 02/16/24 and this time they did some type of electroshock therapy. Like a TENS unit they clipped electrodes to my ear lobes. I am not sure what this is supposed to do but I am sure it will not solve the disc bulge problem. I also have another appointment with neurosurgery on 02/28/24, this will be the third, at which point they will again do nothing to solve the problem only spend more money.

I think this is part of the reason why God had me obtain an accounting degree so I can see firsthand how governmental accounting works or doesn't work. There is no profit in a cure so keep the patient suffering, prolong the pain until they are too old to complain, give up or comment su***de. Then the VA will be able to record the expense or expenditure, practically ensuring they will receive the same amount of money or more the next fiscal year. Just follow the money.

Most of my concerns for Veterans are that they are not receiving proper / timely health care but this story just backs up my theory that the government is just about money, not helping Veterans.

Well the VA neurosurgery department called me today because I filed another complaint. They want to setup a 3rd appointment and I guess do nothing to solve the problem again. I heard the same excuses I have heard before "there are many things that can cause back pain". I know the difference between a muscle spasam or pulled muscle or pinched nerve. I have spoken with a representative from Paralized Veterans of America, Disabled Veterans of America,
Wounded Warriors Program, Senator Kelly Hancock and others. One representative said I need to contact Senator Cruz, Senator Cornyn and my local congressman. I was told there should be a congressional inquiry. A friend of mine has a contact with the local media so perhaps it's time to talk with them also.
If anything happens to me make sure you look into the VA.

After my 5th MRI the VA just wants to send me to neurology again, 3rd time. I have an orthopedic surgeon ready to solve the problem (need referral from VA) but the VA just wants to treat the symptoms and seem to care nothing about my pain and suffering or that I have no quality of life. Plus all the secondary issues I now have caused by the VA’s lack of care.

Veterans please give a brief summary of your issues. Here are mine:

L4 L5 disc bulge
5 ER visits so far
3 X-rays
3 CT’s
5 MRI’s
Physical therapy that didn’t help
Drugs, some of which incapacitate me
The VA wants epidurals which I have had and they don’t work or are temporary
2 years of pain and suffering because of the VA
Community care does not work
Filed 3 or 4 white house complaints
Senator Kelly Hancock is involved
Other private Veteran organizations involved
I have no quality of life
I am probably 20+ pounds overweight as a result of this
Over 30 things I either can’t do without pain or have difficultly doing
I now have multiple secondary medical issues as a result of the VA not fixing the L4 L5 disc bulge problem
The VA only wants to treat the symptoms not the cause
For 8 months the VA knew about the L4 L5 disc problem before my first ER visit, the VA did and said nothing to me.
