The Friends of Oak Cliff Parks maintain a garden at Kiest Park in Oak Cliff. One of the highlights during summer visits is viewing the many varieties of Althea "Rose of Sharon" in bloom in the gardens. Here are some photos of the gardens taken this week.

At Rutgers University, the guest iris plants were located in the public display gardens. Here are some of the photos of the iris. I have to break up the photos into several groups since Facebook limits posts to 80 pictures in a post.

I am jealous of Tom's tomato forest. His tomato plants are over 7 feet tall and still growing. I planted my tomatoes much earlier in the year, but his yard has a lot more sun. Here is a photo of him in the garden. These photos are about a week old. The tomato plants have grown even bigger. The cucumber plant is producing about 6 cucumbers a day.

He is using Althea (Rose of Sharon) plants as screening plants along his fence.

On Wednesday May 20th, Tom & I and members of the American Iris Society toured the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It was 94 that day, the hottest day of our visit and a day when temperature records were set in the NY area. The gardens only covered 54 acres, so it was a much easier space to explore. We started in Steinhardt Conservatory exploring the C. V. Starr Bonsai museum. The museum is the 2nd oldest in the U.S.

Here is the next to last batch of photos from the Presby Memorial Iris Garden in Upper Montclair New Jersey. What I find amazing is the many color variations that hybridizers have created over the years.

Here are some additional photos from the Presby Memorial Garden in New Jersey.
