Thank You Darlin' Foundation Thank You Darlin’ Foundation is a nonprofit building confidence, literacy, and power - one poem at a time.

Our mission is to promote youth literacy through the arts. The evolution of the organization into what it is today, was mainly inspired by the collision of two narratives: (1) The overwhelming need for effective and innovative strategies to combat the staggering literacy deficits in marginalized communities, and (2) The popular phenomena of poetry slam competitions which began to illuminate the voices of students in an entirely unique way.

One beautiful moment stood out: a father held his son’s hand as they approached the wall. The boy watched his father write a line—then he wrote one too. Later, a mother and daughter did the same. Yesterday, Thank You Darlin’ participated in the BEACON Early Action Neighborhood Project, joining four other nonprofits to celebrate community at . Our activity, “Poems of the Greats,” invited neighbors to pause and read poems by Nikki Giovanni, Alice Walker, Muhammad Ali, Langston Hughes, and Shel Silverstein. Community members were also invited to write a few lines of their own to help create a community poem.
