Thank You Darlin' Foundation

Thank You Darlin’ Foundation is a nonprofit building confidence, literacy, and power - one poem at a time.

Our mission is to promote youth literacy through the arts. The evolution of the organization into what it is today, was mainly inspired by the collision of two narratives: (1) The overwhelming need for effective and innovative strategies to combat the staggering literacy deficits in marginalized communities, and (2) The popular phenomena of poetry slam competitions which began to illuminate the voices of students in an entirely unique way.

This is what a room full of kids looks like after they've been told their words matter.

They competed. Some of them told us they couldn't do it. Then they got up in front of people and did it anyway, and now they're wearing medals and smiles!

After-school enrichment. Literacy activities. A safe place to create and say what they're thinking out loud. That's what your gift pays for, and that's how a kid finds out they have a voice worth using.

It's North Texas Giving Day and we're going for $5,000.

Power is not always channeled through forceful measures. Sometimes, the most powerful are the ones who have mastered the art of silent insistence. To have poise is not to be meek, but to be trusting of one's abilities and let them speak for themselves.
